Pinnacle's Shooting Shack

I just got back from Pinnacle Mountain having checked out our newly renovated SHOOTING SHACK, and man, am I ever impressed. The guys used thermopane windows to let the light in along with an insulated door, ever crack has been filled to stop the icy air from blowing through, the porthole covers are made of plexi-glass which are plenty big and are easy to slide up to open, then are held open by a simple pin being positioned into a hole, and even the stove was slid away from the firing line to help stop the blistering ones behind while sitting at benches 4 and 5 (maybe?).

All 6 benches are still in place, but only 5 lanes will be available at any one time as the first bench was rebuilt into a Lefties only bench, meaning that either bench #1 can't be used if 6 Righties show up, or bench #2 has to be closed down to give a Leftie enough room due to the lack of space between benches. But, 5 lanes will work just fine as I can't remember the last time we had anywhere near 10 shoots show up for a match during the winter, or even over 5 for that matter.

Now for the bad news! We started running benchrest matches at Pinnacle by shooting IR 50/50 back in 1995. Up until now we would simply remove the walls of the Shooting Shack every Spring to open things back up to give us a dozen open-air benches (the IR 50/50 Rules require the benches to be open-air), then button things back up after the season. But now where the Shack is more of a permanent structure and can no longer be disassembled there will only be 6 open-air benches available during the warmer months, meaning we will have to run at least 2 relays per Class, if not 3. We'll just have to deal with that if and when it ever becomes an issue again sometime down the road.

Looking forward to our first cold weather match in just 3 short weeks.

Hay Dave It sounds good . I hope me and Tod can make it over . Rick

Rick,

I guess that all depends on the weather, now doesn't it? It would sure be a long drive in a Nor'easter!

Hope to see the two of you when the time comes.

Dave

Dave,
The shack sounds nice. I still remember my first winter shoot at Pinnacle. 27 below 0 when we started and it never reached 0 outside that day. Got up to 42 inside the shack and when we opened the shooting ports there was so much mirage that all the bullseyes would disappear off the targets several times a relay!
