Picture of a 1911 pistol

I sometimes play with studio type photography, mostly for coin shots but decided to see what I could do with one of my pistols. This is a S&W 1911 pattern (except for the extractor) in 45 ACP. You may own pistols of various types but when you hold one of these, you'll understand why it's still selling strongly after 100 years. There's something magic about the design in the way that it approaches perfection for its fit with the human body. Pretty too-- Sometimes the form and function are indistinguishable.

If 1911's were known by the people world wide, there would be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from countries where the governments won't allow the citizenry to have these.

We're only one Supreme Court Justice away from that condition ourselves but that's another story.

Bikini shots ?????

Tom. That is really nice.
I should look at S&W for my next 1911.
Krupa had me talked into Wilson......

Tim,

Down in Florida over Christmas and doing some handgun shooting with my sons. I have been taking some NRA handgun instructor courses recently and have been trying to change my grip and hold for defensive shooting; quite a challenge.

On Sunday I took three 1911's to the range: my son's Springfield, a new Kimber Professional and my tried and true Wilson. I shot five-shot groups at 12 yards from a supported hold with all three using Federal match 230 gr. The Springfield and Kimber had groups that measured around two inches. The Wilson had a five-shot group that measred 3/4 inch ! And four of them were through the same hole (one darn flyer) !

There are 1911's and there are real 1911's. Not quite Benchrest, and 1911's aren't the "latest and greatest" for defensive carry; but, everyone should own a nice looking and shooting 1911. 102 years old and still the greatest.

Yep I've seen that Wilson shoot before........ Lets just walk up there and take a look..... eh???

I can't see the photo by Tom either. Since I believe that every American should own at least one 1911, I am posting a picture of my Kimber. I know that I am no Tom D. when it comes to photography, but here it is. James

That post is over two years old, I probably moved the picture. My Contender too.

I have two passions in shooting: benchrest rifles and 1911's.

My buddy Quigley asked me a couple of weeks ago "if I put all my 1911's on a table, just how big would that table be?"

When I get back home I may try and post a picture of that table. I also was thinking about lining up the BAT/Scovlles on a tablle a taking a picture of that gaggle, too.

Tom and James: Great looking pictures.
