The sixth of six CCR&P Indoor Air Rifle Bench Rest Match of this season went smoothly with a great turn out of nineteen air gunners to test their skill and maybe some luck. The range temperature went up to 51 degrees.
This match was the 40th Match using the current targets which started in October 2008.
Shawn Regis had the “Golden Cuspidor” sitting on his bench during the match since he was the February 2015 match winner with a score of 999-74x.
Sue Vogel came with “Red Velvet” brownies, delicious. Thank You!
There were some close score between shooters. Four shooters were in the 990’s. There were four set of tied scores.
There were seven perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match. They were shot by Mark Burns, Shawn Regis, Tim Wilson and Bill Quick. Fine shooting.
Two shooters had equipment or others reasons and Did Not Finish (DNF).
Mark Burns was the Match Winner with a 998-80x. Excellent shooting. Mark set a new “x” count record of 80x’s beating his old record of 79x’s. Mark now has nine match wins and ties JD Dodge for most match wins.
There were four different match winners during the CCRP Fall/Winter Season with Mark Burns winning three of the six matches.
There was a tie for 1st Place PCP between Shawn Regis and Tim Wilson with both having a 997. Shawn won on “x” count with 62x’s to Tim’s 60x’s. So 2nd Place PCP went to Tim Wilson. John Calhoun took 3rd Place PCP with his 989-43x.
In the Springer Class Bob Wilgus was 1st with a 992-46x. Bob just started shooting the CCRP indoor matches in December last year and has been first place springer in all four matches he shot, thus becoming the top springer this Season with a 992.25 average. Nice going Bob. There was a tie for Second Place Springer with Tom Dangelo and Walt Schumacher both having a 983. Tom took 2nd Place with a higher “x’ count of 38 to Walt’s 34. 3rd Place Springer went to Walt Schumacher.
Tom Dangelo shot his highest indoor score using a Springer. Welcome to the good/dark side Tom (ha ha).

Equipment:
Mark Burns shot an Anschutz 8002 with Qiang Yuan pellets at 575 fps. Shawn Regis shot an Anschutz 2002 with 8.4 gr. pellets at 900 fps. Tim Wilson used a BM 500 LW with AA 8.4 gr. pellets at 780 fps. John Calhoun shot an AA EV2 using JSB 8.4 gr. pellets at 780 fps.
Bob Wilgus shot a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 300S using JSB 7.33 gr. pellets at 600 fps. Tom Dangelo shot a Diana/RWS 75 with R-10 Match pellets at 603 fps. Walt Schumacher shot a FWB 300S with JSB Express 7.8 gr. pellets running 585 fps.
John Mickel and Terry Cooke scored targets during the match. Gerry Smith recorded the scores and Walt Schumacher organized the recorded targets. Great work everyone. Sure makes Match Director job easier with shooters help. Thank You All.
JD and Sue took photos of the event. Thanks. Also, thanks to the Shooters for attending and those that help put everything away.

The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match will not be until this October.

Note: The next Indoor Field Target match is next Saturday on March 28, 2015 at CCRP.

See you at TR&R in April for Air Rifle Benchrest.

This is a very interesting post Harvey

Mark Burns's scores with a low powered rifle just shows that 10m match rifles are more than capable of competing with the higher power rifles indoors

Bob Wilgus's scores are also amazing for a 6 ft lb spring powered FWB rifle.

I will copy and paste these results which will be of interest to my club members who seem to think that only the full powered (12ft lb) FT type rifles are capable of top results. (I must admit to previously doubting low powered rifles myself at anything over 10 metres)

Many thanks

John

Be aware that NWA CCRP shoots at 50 feet indoors

Take a look at the Indoor Spring/Piston scores at http://www.usairriflebenchrest.com/category/scoreline-results/ for some 25 yard scores. The slow guns are not nearly as good at that extra 25 feet. The Outdoor 25 yard scores are also there as a comparison.

Indoor benchrest

Thanks for pointing that out Gary

I had assumed they shot at 25yds/25m so those scores now are more in line with what i would expect although i am still impressed with Marks scores with a low powered rifle

At our club we shoot in a 20 yd league and in the UKBr22 postals at 25yds

Most of us have found that indoors at 20 yds the 6 ft lb PCP guns can almost match the 12 ft lb guns but at 25 yds the 12 ft lb rifles have the edge

None of us have had success with wadcutter pellets even at 20 yds and all our club shooters use the 8.4gr or 7.9gr AA/JSB round headed field pellets

With 12 ft lb spring powered rifles such as the TX200, Prosport and HW77/97 rifles we have a few shooters who can usually shoot 230+ ex 250 indoors and 5-15 points less outdoors depending on wind conditions

This summer a few of us are going to shoot 50 yds outdoors with our spring powered rifles and it will be interesting to see how we get on. A calm day can make a huge difference to scores particularly at this long range
