So I’m reloading some Nosler 200gr AccuBonds, 30 cal and I use up all the bullets in the box. I grab the first bullet in the new box seat it, measure it and It’s .020 short. I take the comparator off and measure the length to tip sure enough .020 short the whole box of bullets is .020 shorter then the last 4 boxes. Have you guys ever experiences this? I’m sure there is now way the B,C could be accurate on this box of bullets. Now to the range to see how they shoot.

measured using a comparitor is the norm. It is nearly impossible to find any bullets that will measure the same. .020 is a bit on the excessive side but I am not surprised to see your report. Probably has something to do with the process used to make them. Just change your seating die and shoot them. From my experience, all of them will shoot ok as long as they are sorted for size so that one can get then seated properly.

The measurement from the tip to the base is not important. What matters is the length of the bullet from near where the bullet will engage the lands to the base. This, somehow, has relevance to how well the bullets will shoot. You will need to measure the bullets with a comparitor that will measure this relationship.

All the bullets are seated the same using a comparator .005 from the lands. This is where the rifle likes them.

Duhh Huhhh.....

Bullets of different lots should be expected to have different ogive lengths, and .020 is not excessive at all.

Now you know.
