Nightforce scopes

Why doesn't nightforce make a straight 36 or 40 fixed power
just for Benchrest without batteries and with an
objective that allows an acceptable weight. We
really don't need to drive tent stakes with it. ?

I'll venture a guess.........The current scopes probably appeal to a market that is just large enough to justify producing the scopes. If they were to specialize the scopes too much it may narrow the market to the point that it is not profitable to make them. Yep.....only a guess.

At one time they did make and sell a straight 36X scope. I have seen a couple on rifles and can remember (1) for sale in the BRC classifieds. They must have been short-lived as they were far from common.

40x Nightforce

A while back I posted something about a 40x that I ended up with. Most guys did not know that they existed then either. One fellow has one that he loves. I did not get to try mine yet. Ya sorta gotta wonder why it can't compete with the Leupolds etc.

The Market

The Market governs everything. Unless you are shooting competition and have to have an ultra light scope to make weight, the weight means little.
After they sell one to the few Benchrest Shooters who would buy it, who else would want one.
Considering the constant turmoul in the Benchrest Community concerning scopes, they probably think, "who needs that kind of aggravation".........jackie

I had one of the fixed 36 powers, they are an excellent scope optically.
They also have a higher magnification than a similar rated Leupold etc.
I now use the 12-42 Variable so on the days the heat haze is running I can back down the magnification and see the mess I am making on the target clearer.

Keep smiling,

Charlie

There was a time, that many were heard to say, I'm not spending
that much on a scope. I wonder that maybe nightforce brought out
fixed powers in that time period. Now things are a bit different.
Jackie has opened our eyes to all to many flawed scopes. March
scopes would have never sold 10 yrs ago. Weaver takes a bashing
yet they are alive and well. When you think of BR shooters, being a small
group, remember, there are that many more and then some who will never
join ,but shoot informally and want good equipt. The Market is still
open

I still think they would sell well if they retained Nightforce quality and got the weight down to where you still had some barrel left when you made weight,Maybe a 36X-40X under a Grand. I am not sure why they didn't supply the market at that time. Again, most folks don't know they even existed. The ones I knew of were always on the gun so warranty problems didn't seem to exist. Maybe a bean counted based decision(??).
