New to air rifle BR

Shot center fire BR for years, but looking at the air rifles. What would be considered a minimum rifle to start with, and is a Feinwerkbau 124 Sport good trading material? I've had it since new and is externally perfect. Have not shot it in a decade and now it has no power at all.
Thanks

Bryan,
I don't know much about the FWB 124 but I have a couple of suggestions for a rifle to start out with. The CZ200S in .177 is very accurate right out of the box and is suitable for LV class and the Benjamin Marauder is more powerful option for Production, Sporter or HV class, depending on how much modifying you do to it, and you can do alot. Both about the same money, between $400-500. You might consider a refurbished Marauder for $325, too. I bought one of those and it's a good shooter, not BR accurate but a cheap platform to build on.
Here's a link to an ad for one, it's a couple of days old but the Kevin regularly sells the refurbs. I bought mine from him and can vouch for him. http://www.network54.com/Forum/7957...actured+Marauder++30+day+warr.+325.00+shipped
Hope this helps,
Todd

Refurbished......

What kind of history would something like that have and how might it compare to a new one? The Marauders seem to be pretty accurate from what I have read. Also, what about feeding it......tanks etc?
Thanks

Do not confuse the record scores shot with the custom Maruader with the ones available for purchase. You will need to shoot really well to beat a Hammerli Pnuema in Production outdoors.

As I said in my PM to you, it is a 700.00 class (retail price of the rifle and scope) not what you paid for used equipment but the mfg suggested price for a new one.
You will be at a handicap in any class other than production. Look at the scores both indoor and outdoor The scores for last years outdoor production class are not up any more. But the m-rod did not win. Read the rules look at the scores before you make a purchase.

Brian, you having shot cf for awhile while, will be depressed by the in-expensive route ( which quickly becomes pricy as you may well know).
I would suggest a TM 1000 by RAW ( they have a web sight) if you want to be serious about it from day one, The marauder to get feet wet,but the CZ 200 better choice.
Bulk fill Tank will run about 250 or more at local dive shop, where you can get it filled also. ( if you get the tank from them , then they will fill it for you) another $200 or so for connection fittings and gauge. Hand pumping gets old real quick ( they cost a couple c notes as well). you are working with 3000 psi air here not a garage compressor. ( as always support equipment is the other 1/2 of the equation)
As to your 124, the piston seal has dried out or gone bad ( early ones were leather, later versions were synthetic) so it likely will need a new piston seal. not something to be fooling with on your own as the piston spring is always under compression even when not cocked. Go the the Yellow forum to find various people who offer repair service. There is a market for those although I do not follow it.

The good news is it is a hoot, and ya can get pellets. Hoarding and/or Govt. intrusion hasn't hit air rifles yet, at least in my area. Got to love the $.02 or less per shot vs our powder burners nowdays. Boy will it teach you to read wind and lighting conditions that you never new existed.
PS sightron or weaver 36x work real well for this

To be dead nuts accurate, I have to say that I have taken a bit of time away from the shooting sports.......sold the bullet business and just plain laid low hoping the economy would pick up. No luck so far, but the itch is getting pretty heavy. I have shot airguns for decades, but only for a pastime in the backyard. There is no organized ARBR in NW Colorado where I work, or NE New Mexico where I call home.
In hard times I have sold most of my guns. Now I want to ween myself back in. Something accurate enough to get my interest, but with full understanding that it is not gonna win any matches, OR break the bank. The Mrod seems to be a good starting point on a budget. Test and tune is where I can keep myself occupied and happy.

Air Arms 400 series?

A friend has an Air Arms 400 something or other which seems to shoot as well as my EV2. I think it is the 400 series model with the good trigger, around $1100. They are sort of like the CZ's. I have one of the CZ's. It shoots almost as well as my EV2 but throws shots and I have not been able to make it stop that. I have tried a number of pellets but not spent a lot of time trying to refine it, actually. It's like anything else, there are no cheap guns that will compete with expensive guns. Just depends what one calls expensive I guess. The problem for we who have been shooting ultra accurate rifles for awhile, anything less is boring.
