new barrel ?

I had a 7mm wsm built with a 28 inch tapperd lija 8.5 twist barrel ,180 berger vlds ,61 grains of 4831sc ,250 cci mag primers vel was 2806 with es of 12 .It produced groups of half inch at 100 yds.I decided to get a 1 1/4 non tappered barrel with same specks. will that help me get same grouping or better with say 3000 fps vel.

No way to tell. It's more about your tuning ability than the size difference between the two barrels. Bigger barrel doesn't mean more velocity. The target will tell you want to do. Speed doesn't win many matches.

i just took off an 8.5 twist kreiger, was on my bat 3 lug chambered for 7-300 wsm, finished at 30" and it shot 180 bergers up to 3100 if i chose to. i never found a competitive (or so i thought) load from 2800-3100, so i quit with the caliber. barrel has 480 rounds through it, want it? hehe
