I need a used 30br barrel for testing some lead bullets for the cast bullet benchrest. If anyone has a take off barrel either in heavy or light varmint contour 1 in 17 or 1 in 18 twist. I would be interested in purchasing it.
I have been shooting a barrel with 1 in 10 twist, chambered with the 30 br robinette reamer, with some heavy 200 gr linotype bullets and have just purchased a mould that cast a 115 gr 30 cal bullet and I feel like the 1 in 17 or 1 in 18 twist barrel would shoot these bullets better. Please email with what you have and a price.
Thanks Danny

It seems like you would need a faster twist since your velocity won't be as high as the jacketed loads.

About 10 years ago CBA champs like Jennings (he has left the range) were shooting ~215 gr cast bullets with ~30 gr Varget. Barrel twists were around 11.75. Velocities were around 1800 fps. Thirty cal cast bullets ~115 gr bullets are around .650" in length. Run Greenhills (http://www.geocities.com/capitolHill/lobby/1221/grn_hill.htm) and you get 21.9". A twist around 18 might work. Assuming 1800 fps the bullet will fall subsonic at about 200 yards. It should be a good project.

30br used barrel

We are using linotype and montype and can shoot these bullets 2200 to 2300 feet per second without any leading. I wanted to try a used barrel first to see how they would fly. With the 17 or 18 twist I might be able to shoot these at a higher velocity without leading because of the slow twist.
I shoot regular benchrest and have a 30br on a nesika action but didn't want to take a chance of leading it up. I got the lead bullet benchrest bug back last winter. They use the same rifles as jacket bullet benchrest does but most use heavy bullets and I wanted to try the small bullets. Thanks for all the help so far maybe someone out there will have a take off barrel that they are not going to use and sell it.
Thanks Danny

You did not say what type of action. I have a 1-17 Krieger that I just took off of my 30BR LV-Sporter in favour of a 1-18 twist. It's the barrel I shot at The Bluebonnet this year. It is machined for a Stiller Diamondback, which is about the same as a Panda. It shoots VERY good, and is still what I would call a "premium" barrel.

If interested, give me a call at (832) 689-4157

used 30br barrel

The rifle I'm using for a cast bullet benchrest rifle is a trued up remington 700. I can rethreat most any barrel for this action if it is not real short.
