Neck-Sizing once-Fired .220 russian brass

Steve, I didn't realize Redding S die used an expander ball. The expander will open the neck to the size of the ball regardless of the bushing size. It also overworks the brass and stretches the neck upward making cases longer. Wilson dies do not use an expander so you get what the size of bushing is minus about .001 springback. Bob Z

Bob,

It is either an expander ball or a button. Why a neck-sizing die has something that expands the brass necks after contracting them is beyond me!

Steve and Wilbur, Redding says to NOT use the expander button when cases are neck turned. That is why your .257 bushing is not tight enough. The button opens the neck back up after sizing. With the .256 bushing you don't have quite so much spring back. With no neck turning the type S die acts like a FL Sizer when you use the expander installed. Bob Z

I figured that out, and I'm using a 0.258 neck bushing in my die. THANKS!!
