Need info about Mossberg M44(22 Cal with 7 rds mag:
1.Compere with similar rifles(Brno#1, Toz-17-1, Toz-78) overall.
2.Possible problems Mossberg gives.
3.Reliability.
4.How accurate( with Peep Rear Sight, Post Front Sight)?
5.Prices.
6.Best place to buy.

Nice rifle.
Outshoots a Ruger 10/22
Likes Eley Team ammo

Is not a competitive ARA rifle.

CMP sold a bunch last year for $207 shipped,with clip and front sight hood.

Bunch of us guys at our club got them and all were in great shape.Some had been reconditioned and parkerized and almost looked like new.
We got a total of 17 and all were worth the money.
The ones coming out of CMP now,are pretty well used according to some posts on their forum web sight.
As far as shooting ability,they wont be competitive,mainly due to the trigger.
I've heard of very few that were drilled and tapped for a scope.
 
I have found the Mossberg M44US to be highly reliable and accurate. Mine have never misfired after a few thousand rounds. Feeding from the magazine is sometimes not smooth but I normally load single shot. I am not a very good shot but can often shoot a few through the same hole at 20-25yd with the standard sights.

As others have said, though, this is a trainer and not a competitive rifle, mainly because of the rough trigger. With minor work you can lighten the trigger considerably but it will never be like the very fine rifles. Also these are just very old (mine from 1943 and 1946).

For the $75 each that I paid the CMP several years ago, the two I have are excellent rifles.
