Last Wednesday, She Who Must Be Obeyed and I flew over to Maui to celebrate my 70th birthday, which was yesterday. We took Wednesday to recover from the lost hours ( actually, it took a couple more days) and Thursday we drove the road to Hana. For those who haven't done the trip, it is like no other I have experienced. Perhaps an average of 7 or 8 MPH the entire trip but a beautiful one. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to draw a Genesis out of the "motor Pool" so we had relative comfort, automobile -wise.
Saturday we drove up the volcano to the National Park. It was cloudy most of the time so we didn't see much in the way of vistas. Nice trip, all the same, nice area to live in along the way up there, 70* or so during the day.
Yesterday we went to Lahaina for the bulk of the day, culminating in a Birthday Dinner at Mick Fleetwood's Upstairs Restaurant and on the roof to watch yet another spectacular sunset. (sunsets here on Maui are quite something. Grand time and had Happy Birthday played on the Bag Pipes by a Scotsman who is the beginning of the evening's entertainment; lot of fun. Today, we are visiting several smaller sites of interest. Tomorrow we go to Molokai for a Damien Tour, of sorts. It's not easy to do the real tour, like we thought it would be.
More Later,
Pete
