Millet scope problem, anyone familiar ?

I recently purchased a Millet Illuminated Variable in what appears to be quite decent condition. I
intended to use it for hunting on a 308 sporter. As I began to mount it I noticed the cross hair was
canted to the left relative to the windage/elevation turrets. I also located a small screw in the
bottom of the turret houseing which when undone exposes, what I believe to be, the bottom left
of the internal reticle houseing. (Like a system Burris used a while back to lock in W/E adjustment.
I can see it's scratched up as if some one tried to rotate the houseing to turn it or move it back to
where it's supposed to be. Is there a special tool to use for rotateing the houseing ? Millet
doesn't want to talk about it and since I'm not the original owner it's not warrenteed. I can
probably use it as is, the cant isn't terrible, but I would like to make the cross hair verticle without
turning it right in the rings. Any comments, other than throw it away ? Thanks.

Throw it away. Do some research on scopes before you buy another. Buy a scope that has a lifetime guarantee. Plan on paying as much for a scope as you paid for your rifle.

Hey Don....if misery likes company :(; would it make you feel better if I told you that last month was the first time in 35 years that I decided to sight-in a NIB Redfield 3x-9x Widefield scope from 1975..... but I found out that POI is off 36". (and it wasn't the rifle, because the next scope I put on the rifle worked just fine.) I have a new Burris Black Diamond scope that's NIB for 2 years now.......and now I'm not sure anymore if I want to wait another 33 years before I do open that box.:D
