I don't think you should have pulled your thread.
Granted, it took a side road, but there are multitudes of shooters who monitor this site who do not have a clue about the role that the moving backer plays in Benchrest.
In my opinion, the moving backer is what certifys our accomplisments. When non Benchrest shooters look at that zero hanging on the wall, and say, "yeh, but how do we know there are five shots there", and you explain the moving backer system, they always go 'oh'. We do it, and we can prove it.
In my opinion, we live, and we die, by what the moving backer says. We do not need to be down playing it's importance in Benchrest........jackie

My reason for pulling thread was not because of comments about the backer system, it was because the lesson I was trying to point to help others was flawed. I didn't realize it until you pointed it out that the backer would have picked it up.

Dave Tunbridge and I run the match up in Springville Utah. We know how important the backers are. just ask some of the shooters that had to wait for over an hour-(twice) last spring while we fixed them when they went down last spring. Dave rebuilt them after taking over the director position.

You are right-if the backers aren't working properly, then the match cannot be certified for the NBRSA-nor can any records shot either. If you have a way to restore the thread, by all means go ahead.
