McKinney TX pool incident, bad cop?

Here's another point of view.

Another McKinney resident, Bryan Gestner, posted on Facebook, “This was a Twitter party that turned into a mob event. Jumping pool fence. Assaulting 2 security guards, attacking a mother with three little girls. The video doesn’t show everything.” He continued saying the kids were drinking and “smoking weed” and they would not listen to any of the adults around the pool.
“This isn’t about race,” he continued. “This is about outside kids invading our neighborhood and had no respect for authority or the residents here. I have a target on my back now and I have been threatened by these punks that they are gonna shoot up my house when all I did was try to control the mob and actually tended to the girl and the boy that had a bloody lip.”
“Yall don’t know the whole story,” Gestner continued. “I commend the officer for handling this situation.”
Gestner wrapped up his post alleging that these same kids came back into the neighborhood Saturday night. They were “kicking in people’s front door, stole a truck and crashed it into many vehicles. They vandalized dozens of cars and were stealing things.”

This highlights another danger of the instant communication available now. The Twitter about the pool party was supposed to only be for the residents and guests, but any one can read it. So you get unruly party crashers. The attitude and behavior of these young people, as in Ferguson and Baltimore, seems to be both arrogant and menacing. This is probably only the tip of the iceberg, It may be a long, hot, violent summer.

But all of that is lost the instant people see him pull that gun.

Think about it. Fro m the time we were kids, we have have heard, "never point a gun at anybody or anything unless you intend to fire".

This was a crowded residential neighborhood. Just exactly who was the officer going to shoot, and if he misses, (quite likely), where is that bullet going.

That being said, I can't amagine anybody choosing to be a police officer in today's America.

Our perceptions are a function of the information that we have. Different information=different conclusion. If you take the time to look at the material on this page, you will come across an annotated blurry video that points out that just before the officer drew his weapon he was approached by a man who reached behind his back as if to draw a weapon, at which point the officer assumed a shooting stance and drew his. Once it became clear that the man was not a threat, the officer immediately holstered his weapon. It is that narrative and video that has been absent from most discussions of this situation.

What we need to learn from this is that trial by media is not what we want, and that like a jury, we need to refrain from forming an opinion until all the evidence is in. What I as seeing here is a pattern of the media wanting to believe anyone who frames a situation along racial lines. Personally, I think that the people who promoted this party should face civil prosecution for the trouble that they caused.

What I saw on Fox,, was a policeman trying to subdue an unruly teenage girl, whe 2 guys slipped up behind him.. I would have pull my gun too. Nowadays there are no rules that say,, unruly teenagers can't slip up behind you ,, stab,, club ,, or even shoot you. (W/the mentality (since Ferguson) of "what do we want: DEAD COPS,, "when do we want it" NOW, a policeman may be safer to keep his firearm in his hand. /B]

I thought that was his tazer but i couldnt tell. It looked to me like she was acting like a complete idiot screaming some type babble and it was going to get the crowd out of control if he didnt do something fast. I cant imagine how hard these cops have it since these dumbass teens see them only in their worst element.

Jerry Asked if the Police Officer was a bad Cop.

every incident and the people(Cops) who respond are different. All LEO'S rely on departmental training to handle situations where the use of force is required to gain control of the situation. The problem is,there is no training program that can teach a person to correctly handle each and every situation. Couple that with the fact that There is no employee selection process that can accurate identify the perfect LEO candidate.

It should be comforting to know that, in the US, most incidents such as what happened in Mckinney,Tx ends favorably. The good outweighs the bad.

Are there Bad Cops? Absolutely. You would have to be naive to think otherwise. Some LEO’s bring attitudes to the Job that helps create a negative stereotype. Then ,there are some COPS who simply chose the wrong profession. Wearing a badge and a gun and having the power to take away a person’s life or freedom if you catch them breaking the Law ,is a serious responsibility. Its A job that should be reserved only for career minded people. For many Cops, the job is just a pay check. What they learn in the Classroom is not taken seriously.

Being a Cop is a very dangerous job, because the people they serve and protect make it that way.

I worked in Law Enforcement for 31 years.

Great post..
And I am a firm believer that we as a society pay our Police Officers way too little considering the awesome responsibilities they face in dangerous situations.

Jackie, you don"t have to "believe." ITS A FACT. One of the root causes of corruption in Law Enforcement Ranks Is inferior pay. Especially at the local level.

Let's face it. How good a job are you willing to do if you're not happy with your pay check.
