Mauser 98 Type Extractor??????

I am in need of a extractor for my Fathers old Parker Hale 30-06. He mucked with it years gone by and it will not extract a cartridge all the way back to the ejector so the ejector can kick it out the side.

What I am wondering is has anyone had any success with the PRE-FITS for the 98 or do they still need a bit of fine tuning?

Do's and Don'ts of fine tuning it? Besides grinding so much off that it works like a Rem 700 and BARELY has a big enough claw to pull the round out of the chamber.

Picture of a Properly fitted Ejector?

Best place to get one????

Thanks in advance.

I sold all my 98 parts last year... including some nice new FN extractors.

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton probably can help you.

98 extractors were not meant to jump over a chambered round. Altering one to do so is tricky as an accurate bevel needs to be ground so the brass will contact it just right... the more you grind the weaker it becomes... and it still needs to solidly hold a cartridge in the bolt face.

Also try.............

Precise Metalsmithing,

Jim Wisner in Washington, don't have the present contact info.
Makes EXcellent extractors, have used five, '06 and 6.5 Swede.
He makes them in "basic" (need to be fitted) '06 and Magnum.
