I have a new m1 .30 carbine. Found the entire receiver assy. has a slight amount of play both in the forward to back position as well as side to side and up and down. Has anyone run accross this and if so do you have a remedy?

are you talking about the metal moving in the stock, or something else? is the carbine USGI, or auto ordnance?

It's an Auto Ordinace. The receiver shifts within the stock (all directions.) Would bedding material be the best fix, or is there a better way?

Something to check

The action hooks into a lug ( I think called the action plate) at the rear of the action cut-out in the stock. This may be loose or worn. I have read that the fit of the action in this lug must be tight to have accuracy.

If you are considering a replacement stock, Cheaper Than Dirt is selling replacement Paratrooper Stocks (a folder) for a reasonable price. I bought one and it is BEAUTIFUL and fits very well. It appears to be a nearly exact copy of an origional.
