I'm tired of lubing the inside of the neck.. My questions are , what do I need to buy and just what process do I use.. It might be dumb questions but !!

Thanks

I presume that the reason you're lubing the insides of the necks is for the expander ball. To allow sizing without the expander ball you'll have to either turn case necks or select cases with uniform necks (±0.0005 has worked for me for factory class shooting) and use a sizing die with neck sizing bushings (buttons). The alternative to that is to use moly coated steel shot for lubing case necks. It's a little dirty, but it works well without the screeching and friction of the motor mica used in the Forster neck lubing setup. NECO and possibly others sell moly neck lube setups. Check with Sinclair International.

Thanks. but I guess what I'm trying to ask is if I bought a decaping die and then put a carbide button in my neck sizing die, then lube only the out side of the neck. Is that bout as clear as mud ?? would that work say for a 22 BR.

The only people that I know who lube the [inside] of case necks are those that UltraSonic clean. UltraSonic cleaning removes almost everything so some lube is used to make bullet seating easier.

Buy a Full Length sizing die for use with [carbide] neck bushings for adjusting neck tension. Carbide precludes the use of any lube in that area of the case. Lube the case from the shoulder down as usual.

If the die comes with the standard button that is attached to the decapping rod, remove it and throw it away. It defeats everything you're trying to accomplish with the bushings.

Neck sizing only is practice today by very few short range BR shooters.

Full Length sizing with bushings only is the norm.

I use collets to neck size with NO expander ball. I found that carbon inside the neck will case the bullets to drag just a bit. I have since started brushing the inside of th necks AFTER sizing, but before bullet seating. The bullets seat MUCH easier with less pressure.

If I Ultrasonic clean my cases or anneal them, I put a VERY SMALL amount of Imperial Sizing Wax on a nylon brush and run it inside the necks - again MUCH EASIER seating of the bullets.

For those that do not know or have not talked with Henry Childs, he uses a deluted Imperial sizing Wax solution EVERY TIME he seats his bullets to reduce the bullet pull at firing.

Might want to give graphite and 7 1/2 shot a try.
Centerfire

Second me on this idea. I use powdered graphite and #6 or #8 lead shot to lube necks. Leaves a pretty black ring around the bullet hole. Been the only neck lube I've used for the last fifteen years

Stir in just a dab of.......................

Wolverine Oil, mixed with a tablespoon of hard apple cider. I tried Bag Balm, too thick, Vaseline, too thin. Mink Oil didn't have any "presence", and Skunk Oil, had just a bit too MUCH.

But W. O. is juuuuuust riiiiiiigght. Try it sometime. One caution, though, it can only come from female Wolverines, during their January and February monthlies. This may be just a tad too narrow a window for somebody with a long drive ahead, like those guys from Texas, y'know, but it DOES require some dedication..........

And, while bear oil is similar, it just ISN'T the same. Some have said there are/is a similar product(s) available in Tasmania. (Mania??) but I have no personal experience w/this product and think it just may be an old wive's tale to throw the novice off the "track of the holy grail", as it were.

Best of Luck, and HTH

Guys I want to thank every one for there insight.. What I had and was to stupid to notice was , I had bought a used set of redding 22 BR comp. dies on e-bay that had a nitride bushing in the neck die,, all this time I have been lubing the inside... Some times a little wake up call is needed..

Thanks again..
