bullets

I have an 8.5 in mine. If you are to shoot Sierras, which I do, use the 142's. The BC is much better! I use a 30" Krieger screwed to a Lawton. I know there are so many good pills out there but I've no reason to try another!!!! V/R Greg

140 or 142 smk

Do you guy have an opinion on the 140 compared to the 142 smk in regards to the 1 -8 twist ?????

the 142

is what you want--the 140 mk is, as stated, inferior---ballistically. Now if you ever plan on hunting with the gun, work up a load with the 140 berger vld (make sure you have the "hunting" type).

The twist

I am hearing that the 1 in 8 twist doesn't work so great with the 142 smk that the 1 in 8.5 twist is the best for the 142 and the 140 smk works better with the 1 in 8.

Any truth to this ? ?????

for me

I am hearing that the 1 in 8 twist doesn't work so great with the 142 smk that the 1 in 8.5 twist is the best for the 142 and the 140 smk works better with the 1 in 8.

the 8 tw is better--I have shilens, schneiders, kriegers, and even a lilja---all 8 tw, all shoot the 142 mk better than i can hold or rest---- I think more twist is better than not quite enough. The 142 mk is a better performer than the 140 mk----I think if you did testing, you would find the 142 is better out of an 8 tw. and the 140 ok in either 8 or 8.5. ****** having said this: I have an 8.5 that shoots 142 mk as good as my 8 tw's.

142 SMK's

I just put together a 6.5mm-06, Shilen 8 twist 26" long. I have shot the 142 SMK's in the mid .3's with 47.0 grs. of IMR 4350, BR2's and .025 jam. Although I have not tried any 140's I think I'll opt for the higher BC. Attached are pictures of my last good groups. During my load development, I have shot mid .3's more than once. I seem to have one flier though, could be brass as I am shooting remington and winchester brass, I will be trying Lapua next. They shoot better than I can already, next I would like to try them at 3-400 yards. If they shoot good I'll post some pics, I will be shooting them at 1000 yds. on paper this weekend I'll post pics of them as well.

Good Luck,
Med.
