Where can I find information on the different types of Longrange shooting disciplines such as F/class or any other types of long distance shooting.I know nothing about the different classes. Info on rifle specs., distrances, targets, positions, etc. is what I'm interested in.
I have all the components to build a L.R. rifle but don't know where to start.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Go to the Home Page and click on the two organization's sites (IBS & NBRSA). Look at the Long Range rules for each. Google both the Virginia and Pennsylvania Long Range organizations for their rules.

But, the most important thing you need to consider is who conducts matches in your area and what discipline do they shoot. It won't do you any good to build a rifle for a particular set of rules if the nearest match is 1000 miles away and they only shoot twice a year.

I think the bigger question would be: What long range shooting is being done near me? I would then go to one of the matches and see if the people and competition meets your personality or not.

It would really suck if you bought a dedicated rifle for one discipline and then found out that it is not shot near you, but another discipline is being shot. It would be hard to go wrong with a F-Class gun as they are for the most part "belly bench rest" guns.

I shoot from 200 to 1000 yard F-Class matches with 6mmBR chambered guns.

Ray,

Maybe the sensitive ones have learned to use the ignore list. Besides, everybody knows benchrest is favoured by people who can't get up from prone without an engine hoist. :D

Ray,

It's like anything else... I'll pick on the F/Open guys given the chance, but I'll turn around and (usually) defend them against the sling shooters, and I'll pick on the sling shooters too from time to time but I'd back either against the "B"enchrest crowd, etc. I might even support a "B"enchrest guy against a shotgunner... maybe ;)
