Anyone have tips on a model 7 7mm-08 with 140gr. sierra. Had a douglas barrel put on it an just can't get the accuracy I planned on. Thanks for any help.

Most of the reloading manuals have a load they tested and refer to for the best accuracy in their rifle... I have found these to be a good starting point. Model 7's have a very light barrel and are not noted for exceptional accuracy. How well the barrel is fitted and chambered is quite important. Hopefully the throat is cut fairly short as you can't chase the rifling and use the magazine.

I have not had the best results with any 140 grain bullets in mine. I get better accuracy with 120 Grain Ballistic tips and a warm load of Varget.

I load for five differant rifles in 7mm08 and 140's will not shoot in any of them. Three are modle 7's ,my two are one a model 70 the other a model 722. 120 is the bullet for these. I use h4895 in all of them.

My light barrelled custom 7mm-08 with a 9 twist shoots Hornady 139's and 154's very well. I have never tried lighter bullets.

Which 140 7mm Sierra are you shooting? Out of factory Rem 7-08 and Ruger 7x57 I found the flat base 1910 to offer significantly better accuracy than the boat tail 1905. What twist is your barrel? IMR 4350 worked fine for both.

Shooting 7mm08 out to 1000 yards

OH YE of little faith...the 7mm08 has won several Camp Perry 1000 yd matches and I shoot a Rem 700 CDL action with a 1 in 9" twist Shilen Sendero 26 in Barrel with 162 Amax & 168 Sierra Match grade bullets propelled by Varget and H414 powders.

I have a model 7 in 7mm-08 with a 20" Hart barrel. Try the 120 Nosler BT, as it actually has a thicker jacket than the 140. I use 44 grns R15 with either the Nosler 120 BT or Barnes 120 TSX. I average 2960 FPS. My favorite hunting rifle, really no need for anything else.

Hornady 139 gr spire point, Fed 210 primer, 40 gr IMR 4064. 5 shot groups slightly less than 1 inch at 100 yards.

What are the results you are getting, what twist is barrel this is extremely important?. Is it better or worse than original barrel (or possibly it was not a 7mm 08 before)

I've loaded 120 to 168 grain bullets. I've really had to adjust seating depths on 139's...Hornady like Berger need to be just off the lands.
Best 100 yds group 3/8 " center to center ( forget subtracting the diameter...center to center ) 120 gr Sierra and H 414 powder.
Best 200 yds group 139 Hornady and H 414 powder .556 center to center
1st rifle is factory rem 700 varminter with 1 in 9/14 " twist , heavy barrel
2nd rifle is the CDL with Shilen Barrel 1 in 9 " twist for 162 ~ 168 gr bullets out to 1,000 yds shots. Best group 2 bullets at 4 " and 1 at 6 inches...DURN WIND won't lay flat for 3rd bullet. 1,000 yds will teach you what you don't know

6mmBr has great free downloads for measuring bullet strikes " ON TARGET " software and loading articles
My loads can be found on NODAK OUTDOORS
Good Luck...good shooting and remember only Y-O-U can prevent corrupt lawyers from infesting your government...quit voting for the 2 party ticket !

Are you still shooting it out of the Remington Tupperware stock?

I have a Model 7 in .243 and a second in .308. Both have been rebarreled. The .243 is #3, 20", 1:8 5C, the 308is #3, 20', 1:12, 5C. Both are shooting 5 shots sub .5" at 100 yards. I am shooting Swift Scirocco in both. Also had good results with Accubonds. I pillar beded both the front and rear screws, and fiberglassed in the fore stock making it rigid.
