I've got the opportunity to buy a Leupold 36x for $420 shipped. Since I don't have any experience with this particular model, what is the consensus on these... worth $420? Any questions I should ask that pertain to this particular model?

Thanks.

Leupold 36x

Katokoch: I bought a pre BR model from a dealer several months ago ($550), in as new condition. Was so happy with it, then bought another from a private seller, for $425. They are both excellent. An added benefit is the lifetime warranty coverage not dependent on who bought it new. To me, a good used Leupold, and several other brands that carry a true unlimited warranty are a better value than some of the new scopes now being made outside the U.S.A. Just my opinion, don't mean to step on anybody's toes.

Alright... any conclusions we can draw based upon these photos?

I guess what I was saying is that it's worth it even if it isn't exactly right. You can send it to Leupold and they will fix it free.

Does that warranty work even if it's an old, out of production scope?

36x Leupold

These are all fine scopes, the glass is great, and still have one of the best erector tube designs of any of the current crop of Benchrest Scopes.

I have had all of the Leupold 36X models apart, and the main difference in the originol, and the BR and BR-D is the locking objective. But I am not so sure that the locking objective is such a big deal. The way the ones with the locking objective work is the locking ring just locks the objective cartrige to its self, it does little to enhance the stability of the entire assy on the scope body.

But that is not a big issue with these scopes anyway.

The general consensus is that a good used Leupold 36 is worth about $450, the later BR or BR-D maybe $500...........jackie

The scope arrived today and I like it... I may or may not be able to very clearly read license plates four blocks away in the late afternoon sun.

It'll be perfect for my Suhl 150-1 once it arrives. Thanks for the advice.

I've known of folks who've bought busted Leupolds at garage sales and sent them back....... the warranty is unconditional and forever.
