What is the size and where can I find a lense hood for a Leupold 36 BR? a 40mm is too small -- seams to be around 43mm.

try calling luepold.....they should be able to answer both questions.

Hi Mike -- Yea, that was the first thing I did. They emailed just now and said it is 42mm and they dont have anything for it -- sugested a slip-on. SO my next questions are: 1)did they ever make a cover (read: what are the threads for -- a cap only? and 2) has anyone out there in Target/Benchrest Land know of a substitute/solution?

I have several BR 36 and BR 36 D. All are pre 2004. They take the 40 MM shade.

Would that be a Silver or Blue scope? I may have a spare I can send you,also if your just looking to cover the lenses why not get a pair of the leather scope caps for Leupold 36, I picked a set up from Bruno Shooters supplies and they are a great snug fit.

I bought a 40mm hood and it doesnt fit!
I measured the threads and they are 43mm .. so is the 40mm nominclature just for the size of the objective lense? What gives?

No I have a Furter Olten "Grandson" #464 300 CIAM that I am converting to a silhouette rifle ( read: fitting the 36 BR on)

It is a silver scope Yes -- more correctly I want a sunshade, not caps. I need caps too -- I'll check out Brunos too thanks for the suggestion. Is it a sun shade you're offering, is it 2" or 4", color --how much do you want ofr it? Thanks, Tom

I don't know if this is your problem, but here goes. My original post talked about pre 2004 scopes, if your scope was made after 2004 the sunshade size is different, smaller I believe and the thread size is different also. That size is also available at Sinclairs:

If you purchased a sunshade recently at say a Dick's, or Gander Mountain, they would al be the post 2004 versions not the pre 2004. They have to ordered from Leupold or someone like Sinclair that carries both versions.

Thus I've come to the conclusion: The thread size for a sunshade/lense cap for a 40mm objective lense scope is 42mm.
Now I've got to figure out what the 40mm threaded sunshade I have goes to?
