Let's Start Thinking About "The Crawfish at Tomball"

In two week ends, (April 19-20), we will be holding the annual Crawfish at Tomball Gun Club, North of Houston.
This is historically our Regions biggest match. It is the standard LV-HV Two Gun Format. For six years, The Tomball Gun Club has been so kind as to host this Match untill the Hub City Rifle Club of Lafayette La. can finally start holding the match again. Attendance has been running 50+, but this year, we would like to see at least 70.
Since the Tomball Gun Club is a non profit organization, we give the bulk of the money after expenses to the local Boy Scout Troupe, who serve as our Target and Clean Up Crew. This is historically over $3000, not bad for a week ends work.
We will once again be having our team competition as well. As in past years, the 4-man teams are chosen at random by drawing names out of a hat. In other words, when you sign up and pay your $20, you have no idea who your team members will be. It is strictly the luck of the draw.
Last year, we had close to 100 percent participation. This year, we want 100 percent. Since my Machine Shop puts up the initial $1000 to "sweeten the pot", we can have as much as $2500 to split among the teams. It is a darned good time.
Put this match on your agenda. Like I said, Tomball will continue holding The Crawfish untill Hub City is ready. Help us keep a great tradition in Benchrest alive.........jackie

Not Good

We have room for campers, but I must admitt, we have nothing in the way of hook ups. I run the generator in my Motorhome.
The Tomball Gun Club is sitting on what can best be described as "undeveloped' property. We keep it that way so our taxes stay low, and we can keep the membership at a fixed 250 members.
Don't let that discourage you. The competition will be tough, and there are many fine restaurants right in Tomball, which has evolved into nothing more than a suburb of greater Houston.
Drag Billy and Bart down. It is exactly the same distance from Tomball to Rachels Glenn as it is from Rachels Glenn to Tomball, and several of us make the Rachels Glenn trip at least once a year..........jackie

I think that more matches should put on the team concept that we have at Tomball. It encourages full participation. You may be on your heros team. Dusty, I hope to see you and others come in. We have a good time.

I'm trying to schedule the time off to be there. if denton would've been one week later I woulda been there. I just had to work my last saturday for a while and it happened to be that day. I'm just concerned about a place to stay when I get to tomball. I'm most likely going to stay in my loading trailer if I can get a hookup.

There is no electricity at all. No water either. Like I said, this is considered "undeveloped" property. It has been that way since 1962.
We run the moving backer and the PA system with a small portable generator.
Most Campers who attend bring a small generator to run their camper. Of course, Motorhomes have their own.
As I said before, I can loan you some electricity from my Motorhome. I don't run it in the daytime that much, because I am not spending time in the Motorhome while I am shooting. But I turn the Generator on at night for creature comforts.
I will give you a call.......jackie

Glenn

No food, other than a barbacue place that takes orders for lunch. If, and when, they start having the Crawfish back in Louisianna, I am sure they will revive the tradition of having the big Crafish Feast on Saturday Night. I will admitt that a match called "the Crawfish" should be located in Louisianna.
The Tomball Gun Club is keeping this match alive untill this happens. If Hub City finally desides that they will no longer hold any Gulf Coast Region Registered Matches, then we at The Tomball Gun Club will work toward making the match a more desireable event.
Untill then, all we can offer is great competition in a nice wooded setting.
There are a lot of great restaurants just up the road.....jackie

I ate crawfish at the last one I went to.... of course that was 2001 and I went on a quest to find this "Mr Stiller" to see this mysterious new gold panda looking action. I thought it would match my tooth real well:eek:

That Was The Time

The club has it's reasons for not doing it again, I can't talk about it here. But I will be glad to explain it in person when we see each other in two week ends.........jackie

Favorite Tomball Crawfish Memory.

Dickie Pustajovsky and I were nearing the Tomball range on Sun. morning for the second day of the Crawfish. It was barely getting light. We turned the corner and saw a figure in the road in the distance. As we approached we could make out who it was. Staggering down the middle of our lane was a woman of indeterminate age somewhere between 30 and 45. She had long, unkempt, dirty, dishwater blond hair and a cigarette in her mouth. She had on a tank top and shorts. She was barefoot. As we overtook her she stuck her thumb out for a ride. Dickie, in a burst of compassion, stomped on the gas and sped by her. A cloud of vermin including some STD's unknown out side of a bio weapons lab seemed to radiate from her body. It was like a Stephen King novel when the mist parts and the monster appears. Then we pulled into the range, Jackie showed up and things really became scary. Tim

Directions to Tomball Gun Club

Dusty,

Take Highway 242 off Highway 59 to the west to I-45. At I-45 travel south toward Houston to the exit for FM-2920 toward Tomball. Take FM-2920 to the west (right) toward Tomball for approximately 9.6 miles. Take FM-2978 to the right (north) 1.2 miles to Kuykendahl - Huffsmith Road. Turn left onto Huffsmith Road for .5 miles until you see Zion Road. There is a hair-pin turn just before Zion Road. Turn right onto Zion Road and continue for about .6 miles. You will cross a small bridge and there will be a yellow sign on the right labeled 12600 Zion Road. The sign has the TGC logo in black letters on the yellow background. Turn right on the dirt road and follow through two gates (should be open) until you dead-end at the range.

Hope this helps.

Gary
