Lawton Actions

I noticed a dual port Lawton RF action for sale in the classifieds. Is this a new Action make and type to the RF world? While I haven't been diligent about keeping up with RF stuff I haven't heard of these actions for RF before now. Any opinions on this design, etc?

Thanks,

Pete

I just received a reply email from the seller, James P., asking him the same thing. He said they are same as 40X with some changes, did not elaborate. The picture of the bolt is definately a Dave Kiff 40X RF bolt. I'd like to find out more details about the action as well, maybe James will see this? Thanks, Douglas

Made from a 400 Lawton Action

Barney Lawton was in the middle of this Rimfire project when he was diagnosed with a Brain cancer, Jim Peighttal finished about 20 -25 of these actions along with Roger Brock. Roger and Jeff Jobes shot ARA with Lawtons this past year winning several state tournaments and finishing high on both stat lines. Gene Davis has built several rifles from lawton actions . They are nice and the dual port is a plus! They are in a limited supply, but Roger can cut the Rimfire lugs in a 400 lawton and add a 40x Kiff bolt and 40Xejector ramp and that makes it a400RF.It is easy to get Peightals already finished!!The good news he has them ready to go.:D

Is that the same Jim Pheigtal in PA that make the nice laminate stocks?

Yes. I e-mailed him asking some details myself and he stated that he had 8 of them. Very tempting to get one and put it back for now since I have another project rifle in the works already based off another action. Still haven't gotten ammo for the year so need to watch the $$$ a little for the next couple of months.

Peightal`s #

Jim`s # 724-349-5216 email <jfp468@hotmail.com>;) The Lawton400RF has Dual Ports (Rightport& Left port) and the bolt release is on the Left side of the reciever which are improvements over the 40X other than those two changes it is a clone. I have one that Roger Brock just finished with a 5c Broughton, and it shoots pretty good .The ARA National rifle 2009 was a Brock built Lawton rifle in a Peightal stock , it was posted on this forum with pictures back in August ,I think! Roger Brock Lawton with Peghtal Laminate Stock

Here is my latest Roger Brock Lawton with a James Peghtal walnut Laminate Stock. Cant wait until the weather warms up to shoot it. It took a while to get it all put together but it was worth the wait. The Lawtons are very user freindly when it comes to loading ports.

Lawton Action

I had to special order a 30" #7 Shilen Ratchet to get a finish length of 28". Can always cut off but kinda hard to add on.
