How long ago did Kodiak actions start to come standard with a fluted bolt? Other than weight savings and looking good, do they serve any other purpose? Thanks

since day 1..

all modern Stolle/Kelbly actions have spiral fluted bolts ...you can order the bolt without flutes if u like,or straight flutes...the spirals do just as you suggested ,,plus ,less friction as the bolt moves fore and aft in the action ...and due to the flutes being spiral,,there is no -clik-clik as the bolt is clyled over a ctg. in the magazine ..(if used as a repeater!!)....hope this helps....Roger

It is said

That the flutes on bolts provides a place for dirt to fall into. Considering that most of us aren't shooting in the mud I rather think it is the sexxxy look that charmes some folks. Personally I like smooth bolts as well as fluted. Actually, an nice jewelling job on a bolt looks lovely, in my opinion.

Thanks guys, I was just wondering because I recently bought a used gun with a Kodiak action and the first thing I noticed when it arrived was a normal unfluted bolt. I thought maybe it was an older model but I guess it was just ordered that way. Im sure it will shoot fine either way.
