Joystick Coaxial Rests ?

No disrespect intended

Don,I don't get it.You may think otherwise but you've turned my words around.
May I stress the Farley is definitly not poor design! You can use it as is.And it works fine.

I changed to Butch Lamberts' screws because they are a good idea. The pressure point is larger and they need no adjustment because they don't wear. The original ones might with some use and get a flat point.Butch' are $30,peanuts.

The boot issue is easily dealt with too.You don't even need the boot per se.

I have no connection to Mr.Farley nor Mr.Lambert.All I am is a very satisfied customer and I would buy their products again, they are the real thing.Mr.Farley hasn't replied to my last mail, maybe he's to busy.Previous questions have always been dealth with.

But if you want a seb go ahead,it should be good too.But I'm sure in the end you will change some details too.Benchresters are perfectionists.

Good luck in your search

Edit:Hovis you've hit the nail.

Pieter,

I just read what wrote and interpreted it as meaning the Farley's need up-grading right from the start. I fully realize how popular the Farley's are and I would probably be as satisfied as you are if I bought one and modified it like you and many others have done but I'm am not inclined to do that. Perhaps if we where talking about a Caldwell unit I could understand but at these prices, not a chance. No disrespect intended toward you or other Farley owners and like I said your input was most valuable and for that I thank you. A lot of people would not have been as openly honest about the rests short comings as you have been, most would have colored the truth simply to justify their purchase. Keep the faith Pieter, you're an honest guy and I appreciate that. Don

I have a K&N air filter, aftermarket exahuast, MAF and programming on the vette....does that mean it was sub standard...nope. If your gonna get into benchrest and this bothers you....run away...run away fast...because your really gonna hate the mods to 1000.00+ actions....triggers and everything else.

Don,no offence taken. And yes I always try to help people out in a way I would like to be helped too.

For the rest, you decide it's your cash.Whatever you buy, make sure it's good quality. The rest is a very important factor in the total picture. And in my humble opinion a Farley is hard to beat.

Upgrading a Caldwell is easy, peel of the sticker and put it on a Farley:DIt's a simple mod.

Don,

With a little bit of modification, the Caldwell works great. I changed the base to a 16" triangular cut 1/2" thick piece of plate steel (cost=45.00), then while I was at the Super Shoot, drooling over the Farley, I noticed they had a new top design out. I inquired if the top was available, yes was the reply(110.00---top + stop post. I had the guys at Kelbly's machine the mounting slots and to drill/tap for the stop(35.00). Total cost = 359.00( I purchased the Caldwell new with free shipping for 169.00 from PlanetOptics.

If I can figure how to post pics, I will do it. Also, I changed the plastic knobs to knurled, oversized aluminum.

You're probably right

HovisKM,

You're right,I'm probably over thinking this stuff too much because as you said nothing goes without some kind of modification in BR. Even my way of thinking undergoes changes from time to time. Good wake up call Hovis, thanks. Don

It's the internals.......the steel tensioning balls ride on a die cast piece of white-metal.....how long do you think it takes to start getting gritty and sloppy......well NOT long.
You can put an Edgewood bag on it, a Hurst shifter for the toggle arm, knurled titanium knobs, and gold plated base........but it will still be a poorly engineered Chinese piece of sCRAP.
I have a Farley and a ShadeTree. Use the Farley for VFS, the ShadeTree for hunter. Both are BR worthy.

No Problem

Don
I am kind of in the same boat as you are.I own a $375 Sinclair and a $550 Bald Eagle rests for my 1,000 yard lightguns and a huge $1800 G-G rest system for my heavyguns.I am leaning towards a co-axial rest for faster speed but since I already have several others I don't want to take the plunge haphazardly.
I know I can put one of the toggle tops on either of the rests I already own but don't want a less than ideal set-up.

Bruno stocks both of the Farley's your interested in so there is no wait from the manufacturer no matter which way you or I for that matter go.I figure the Farley sells used in the classifieds here very very quickly so if I don't like it I'm not out $875 I'm out maybe $75 and the trip to the post office to ship it off to a new home.

All of the rests I own have been modified not because they wouldn't work but because I thought it would improve there functionality. In my opinion you need a cross between all three to make the right rest but I'm sure others feel differently.

Whatever way you end up going please pm me down the road and give me your honest opinion off forum.Right now I am leaning towards the Butch Lambert top on the Bald Eagle base.I could probaly sell the Bald Eagle and pitch in the difference and get the Farley in a week but right now I am leaning towards waiting a little bit longer.
Lynn aka Waterboy

Lynn,

I'll most likely make up my mind within the next couple of weeks. The only reason I'm waiting this long is because I want to see and hear what Ernie Bishop (SEB dealer) has to offer. Once I digest his information I'll move quickly and I'll PM you with any and all information I obtain. Don

Sir,
I apologize if I offended you in anyway and a couple of my posts were kinda tart. I was just trying to get across something that I didn't even say. If you check the farley's on the firing line....more are not modified than are. And the total costs of mode's most people do (which include the tension screws) is about 30.00. I don't have a set in mine casue I couldn't get them adjusted right for me. But I removed the ring, pulled the boot out some, moved the front stop and put teflon on the guide pieces. Took a couple of hours and cost me less than 5.00 It's more about fitting a great product to your personal preferences more than about the quality of the product. We have a tremendous amount of excellent equipment in this game. Find someone close to you and see what you like. I don't know where your from but if you bump into me....I have an asortment of stock/actions/rests and bags you can try.
