Jewell Trigger

The design of the Jewell trigger doesn't even require a trigger return spring to keep it cocked. You can remove the spring and as long as you push forward on the back of the trigger it will set, so I doubt it's the spring weight causing a problem. If you're using a trigger hanger, how much trigger sear contact do you have with the cocking piece on the bolt, and how much firing pin fall?

Whatever it is, Jewell will correct the problem if they find one. I have a half a dozen of 'em and never had a problem using them on 40X Remingtons.

Not to hijack this thread but does the jewell fall under the "advertised remington replacement" that Kelbly's talks about being short on firing pin fall as thier web site explains below why they build thier trigger?

Other triggers are advertised as Remington replacements but the problem is that they have a fall that is 40 to 100 thousandths shorter than a Remington and rifles often won’t shoot right with them. A Remington-style trigger should have close to 260 thousandths of fall. If it doesn’t, the rifle usually won’t shoot consistently from shot to shot. We have had to make four or five different brackets to accommodate these triggers so that the rifle will shoot. It’s amazing how many triggers we’ve worked on and made a sick gun well.

Reading this thread made me think about this....Just wondering.

sorry 'bout that Butch. yeah it's going back to jewell today, and i ordered another from Dan Killough which will be here by friday so i can shoot this weekend.

Kent, not sure i understand the question. if you are asking how much contact does the cocking piece have on the firing pin block i dont know how to measure that as you can't see it when installed. Guess you could use blueprinting powder? The turbo action came with a hanger that i assume was made by mr. Ebert. and sorry to be so ig-nert, but i don't know about "firing pin fall", is that the distance it travels from cocked to fired? could ya school me a bit, would appreciate that.

Charlie, as noted above i believe the turbo comes with hanger / bracket, and does not fall into the "advertised remington replacement" category as per kelblys. but dont bet your car on that!

Bill, please call or email me before you make up your mind.

Thanks for all the great replies.

Is there a chance you put the trigger bracket on backwards? It is not entirely implausable and on several actions there is a right and wrong way.

good point. before removing i noticed that the bracket was not symmetrical and made a note. new trigger should be here tomorrow so I get another chance.
