Jackie Schmit puts Bart's 30 Caliber X-OUTs to the test

I just got off the phone with Jackie. He agreed to test some 30s caliber bullets for me.

I'm getting nearly live feedback from him at the range. I have to say I'm pretty exited!

Below is a pic of three, 5 shot groups, fired by Jackie once the gun was dialed in. He settled on a load of 34.5 of 4198 with the bullet .010 in/forward from touching. The velocity was averaging right at 3052. He reported his 4th group was just as small as the other three.

When I talked to Bart, I still had 3 hours of daylight, the conditions were really getting good, more of a gental left to right.

So I shot two more groups, the last being really good. And, since this is a score Rifle, I decided to hang a score target, sight it in in that gentle left to right, and shot five wipeouts.

These are some of the better bullets I have shot as of late. I chambered a new 1-18 Krieger for this, one I have had laying around for a couple of years. It looks like a pretty darned good barrel.

I compare every 30 caliber bullet to the Robinett. Bart's offering here is a 8 ogive, there is a tad more than 1/8 inch of the bullet in the case when you are about .010 into the lands. They do measure just over .308, maybe a tenth or two, on the body, which is good, and have no less than a .005 gas ring.

Here are all five groups, my measurements are up for debate, but regardless, this is a pretty good five group agg.

One thing of note, the a rifle never did anything "stupid" all day, the bullets went with the condition. If you shoot a lot of score, you know what can kill you is to have a combination that will look really, really good, but has a bad habit of tossing a shot about .400 every now and then.

I told Bart that this is about as good as I can shoot.

So true. If these bullets don't "fly," then that is a problem solved.

it's 5x but only 4 wipeouts from what I see. Small 2 at best.

I agree, I am looking at the target in front of me right now, and #2 does seem to have a minute amount of the red dot showing, although a reticle might cover it.

It's still a pretty good target.

Well,

I wish I could be "impolite" 5 times this coming Sunday at Austin Rifle Club!!

Merry Christmas to all!!

Outside to outside of the 10 ring is, I believe .500. It's not a zero, but it looks like a solid teen to me. The other targets, I agree with Apple. It looks like a slight tune issue to me, too. Still not bad, though, and they are all x's, certainly.
Merry Christmas to all!

Testing

So Mr. Jackie

Now that you have tested and found time to test are you going to make time to start shooting matches again in 2015 ?? Or you just going to run the matches there in Houston/Tomball club matches.

The day after Christmas, Jackie was back at the range to see if his earler results were a fluke!
Here's a pic of 3, 5 shot groups and a couple of score targets.

Dave A, Mike, and Dave H clearly his rifle isn't shooting! What do we need to do to tune it? Clearly on the second target, number 3 is total crap!
