Anyone know how I can get hold of Jackie? I've tried email but no response.
They came out and fixed my e-mail, but it still does not work. In fact, the only way I can get on line is through internet-explorer.
I think I am just going to go buy a new computer and give this one a burial at Browning-Ferris........jackie

Jerry, Acer bought the home computer part of Gateway. They do not offer Win XP or XP Pro. All Acer computers are now made in Comminist China also. You may want to check out Acer brand laptops. They are good performance for dollars spent and don't come with a ton of garbage software and many have XP Pro instead of Vista. Windows 8 should be out soon to replace Vista. Hopefully MS has learned their lesson. They have already cut the price on Vista and have extended the production cycle for XP. The rumour mill has SP1 for Vista as being problematic as well.
Just bought another Acer from on hand stock at newegg and it has XP Pro. This model is also listed as current production availabilty on the Acer web site. I have been buying them for company employees who don't treat them as well as they should and haven't had the problems like we did with Toshibas, which I consider on of the top brands. Most computer hardware is made in China no matter the brand name on the outside.
The indication of sending mail or not sending it is a function of the email client program (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc) not the hardware.I bought a Gateway tablet last year. It was the most unreliable machine I've ever owned. In fact, it would indicate I sent mail, but it was never sent. One of my clients, a victim of this fluke, bought me a MacBook. Now this is a great computer. Go Mac and don't look back.
