Jackie, Locked scope question

Hi Jackie,

My rifle suddenly started shooting flat horizontal groups, like 2" while in the famous Denton Honey hole with light conditions. This is my Jewell/Foster/Jackie Leupold 36. I think I've eliminated everything that could cause 2" of flat horizontal except the scope. The barrel was tight as was the post on the front rest. All of the other gizmos and gadgets were tight also.

Next weekend I'll shoot it with a different scope to see if it really is the scope.

Question: Is there anything in a frozen scope that could come loose and cause that much horizontal at 100 yards? While shooting I double checked the ocular and objective lens and both were tight.

Thanks
Shelley

If I locked it, I can't amagine anything coming loose in there. We could sure take it apart and see.
Of course, anything is possible. Did you check the ring that is glued around the scope body that the adjusmant knobs and spring plungers seat against?? That might have come loose.
I am coming to Denton for the 200 yard 4-Gun, we will take a look........jackie

Shelley,

Excuse me for butting in with the obvious but it may help someone else......have you checked the scope base screws? A loose base will make horizontal.

I checked the base screws and every other screw on the rig. All were tight. Hopefully I'll get time to work on my own gun this week so I can try a different scope Saturday. I really tore that sucker apart at the range looking for the culprit. What's that quote.... When you eliminate everything that's actually impossible, whatever is left has to be the problem. That's kind of deep for a guy like me.
