Here is one approach. The unit is spring loaded. The barrel has a 45 degree chamfer cut while the barrel is between centers so that the 45 rides in the 45 of the cone.
Spindle has been reamed
The large unit that holds the spring plunger fits spindle bore snugly as does the reverse cone unit
I do not like the range rod method. I much prefer to have a bore that is concentric to the spindle centerline so that when barrels are installed --you can go from barrel to barrel and be approximately sighted in.
