IMR 4064 in 6 Dasher?

From Iceland

Gentlemen.

Has anyone tested the old workhorse IMR 4064 in a 6 BR improved with
105 - 107 bullets? Just wondering?

Thanks in advance,

In my experience, it's much like Varget in terms of burn rate and loads...but I've seen several instances where it shot better than Varget...hands down better. Varget does seem a bit cleaner and meters better, but what does that matter if it won't shoot as well as the old 4064? YMMV---Mike Ezell

Thank you Mr. Ezell.

Your observations are what I expected them to be.
Mr. German Salzar also found IMR 4320 and Varget to be close.
When it all comes down to dust, nothing is new under the sun!
Thank you again for taking the time to answer.

P.s I am shooting a case that could be called a 6BR Ackley Improved,
Hall B, Shilen SM 1-8 x 26", Nightforce NXS 12-42.

You're very welcome! My thoughts are that if Varget is recommended, 4064 is also worth a try.--Mike

Burn rate charts are not a reliable way to say "this one is close to what I'm using now, so it should work". Powders have characteristics that burn rate charts can't begin to cover. Size of case, size of exit hole, and many more items all have an effect on how a powder will act in a given cartridge. Plus, no two burn rate charts are the same, and that alone should make you wonder.

Very true, Wayne. What I said is based on personal experience with several cartridges, including 6BR's. I didn't base my statements from burn charts....but as always, work loads up carefully.--Mike
