If you had to choose a smith to build you best RFBR rifle who would it be?

Gorham, Myers, Barnes, Brock, Hognisto, Boelter, Penrod, Voelker, Putzbach, Langley.............

This is cruel. I'd give anything to visit Bill Myers in his shop again. I'm sure he is making chips upstairs. I shot the very last Sporter he built this morning and would not trade it for anything. Shot a 249-14x. bob ps you missed a few still working; Eck, Peightal, Calfee.......

You also left out Gene Davis.... He built my rifle and did a helluva job on it. I haven't changed the tuner setting in 2 1/2 years...... If I were getting a 40X built, it would be Gene.......And if Gene was retired and not available, it would be Bill Calfee...

Me, because I work cheap and I get a lot of satisfaction from building my own RF and CF rifles.

I believe John Higdon is the new up comer to rimfire smiths . I have seen his work and would give him a shot . I have done most of the work for myself in the past but I If John can I would get him to do all my stuff.

Bob

I accept my c&p'ed start list is no where near a definitive list of smiths. Hence my question.

Good opportunity to compare the new smiths to the old hands.

He posts under the name Scasa, I don't know his real name, but he does great work from scratch. Any other smiths build everything but the rifling?

Bill

Yeah, say. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. It helps others too.

we do

We have quite a number of excellent smiths. None that specialise in .22br rf rifle builds though. The demand in the UK and Europe just isn't large enough to build a business out of the existing market. There a some who do a fair amount of .22 target rifle work but that's not the same as you know.

Besides none of them work for the same rates your guys do. The competition for work just isn't there. From what I can determine in the US you only have to lift 6 garage doors and your bound to find some guy fettling away on some firearm on other.

One of our top flight rifle smiths, whom I know very well, would want $7k- $8.5k to build a .22br rifle that you guys can pick up for $3.5k. He has approx an 12-15 month waiting list. He would build mine for $5k if I asked him. But I ain't gonna!

I hope that answers your question.
