Toot, don't make more out of this tuner business than necessary; it's not that complicated, and it's not necessary for you to understand all the how's and why's. These computers we are using are a good example; I haven't the foggiest idea how they work, but I can follow instructions and make use of them to serve my needs. Tuners are much the same way.

I can't speak for all tuner designs but mine is the simplest thing in the world; it has a range of only one revolution. There are no complicated micrometer settings, measurements etc. If you can read a clock and place the hour hand in one of the four primary positions, i.e., 12, 3, 6 and 9, you can use my tuner as well as anyone in the world. You do not have to know how and/or why it works.

You're the main guy that was hurtin' my head Gene..:D :D

Seriously though.. Where can I "SEE" yours??

I'll be in touch, thanks... Toot

All my clocks are digital.. I have no experience with clock hands..:D:D

Thats pretty funny. It reminds me of the time I went through the McDonalds drive-through and gave the girl change after she had already rung up my $5 bill.....................

Most of what you read on this, and other forums, is centered around theory and conjecture. Many simply choose to ignore the fact that several of us have been using a tuner ever since the NBRSA said we could, and with good success. Most of us realize the realities of Competitive Shooting, and have designed our tuners to be user friendly in this inviroment. The best idea in the world is of little use if it is deemed impracticle to use in it'sintended venue.
I am with Gene. There are a lot of things that I do not understand about the world we live in, but I do know how to figure out the basic functions of things and get the most out of them.
Simply speaking, it just isn't that complicated.

Beggs Tuner

I just took a quick trip to the range and shot 4 groups with an off the wall load of 27.0gr 322 and Zia 68gr bullets---6MM Beggs cartridge and his tuner.
Tuner at 12 o'clock .155
Tuner at 9 o'clock .233
Tuner at 6 o'clock .255
Tuner at 3 o'clock .315

Let there be no doubt that the tuner works............so does the chambering!

Probability

I would be willing to bet you could shoot four more groups and PROBABLY see completely different results. The single group you fired at each of those different positions PROBABLY means nothing. You might fire four more groups without changing anything and PROBABLY see four groups just like those first four, and then again you PROBABLY will see four completely different groups.

Specifics on the Barrel

Mr. Beggs SIR:
what specifically is needed to be done to the end of the barrel to permit fitting of the tuner you make? Is there a drawing I missed that is a blueprint for a gunsmith to follow? Thank you for your research and contribution.

Bryan, Cecil here has migrated over here from the rimfire side of the board. He is president of the "if it ain't on a slide rule it don't exist" so beware. He does not seem to actually shoot anything but apparantly someone got him a computer, and you ain't ever gonna wear him down.:D

Bryan,
I had Shilen contour a CF barrel in a reverse taper. I put a tuner on it that was behind the muzzle. It didn't shoot well. I gave it to Jay Lynn Gore and he built a tuner that works like Shelleys. The weight is beyond the muzzle. It shoots dots. He went up 4 clicks on his load and the point of impact was the same. He then went down 4 clicks from his starting load and the point of impact was the same. It was still shooting dots. The jury is still out, but it looks like Calfee is not ready for the funny farm yet.

In the limited testing I have done, it is obvious that the tuner can make a difference with all else the same. It will be interesting this season!

Very simple. Turn the last 1.500 of the muzzle to .900 and thread 28 TPI.

The following is optional, but I prefer to turn the last .750 to .849 because it perfectly fits the two liter plastic soft drink bottles I use to contain the spray and patches while cleaning. :D

Gene,

why do you need 1.5" of threads if your tuner tunes in one rotation?
