Can anyone give me some load data on these cartridges? And is the 30x44 the same as the 30br long? I think that is correct, but not sure.
I am thinking about getting into the short(er) 30’s, but I need more info before I can make a decision.

I want to get into 600 & 1000 yard, but not sure if these will work. I have a 6.5x47 Krieger on my blueprinted Rem 700, but want try the 30's.

Hey Rooah,

Start @ 37g of either N-130 or H-4895, if you are shooting bullets weighing 125g or less. You should see some results in the neighborhood. the 44 is the length of the case in MM and may or may not be the same as the 30BR long.

Easiest one to get into is the 30-47 which are necked up 6.5x47 Lapua cases. Harrels sell dies for them . those will need a bit more powder, likely.

Since both are wildcats you may find different versions with the same name. The 30 x 47 is as close to a standard chambering that you'll find. It is basically a 308 shortened to 47mm. The 30 x 44 is usually found with a sharper shoulder, say 35 degrees. Scroll down to the HBR article and you'll see the difference. The HBR guys should be able to give you a lot of load data since both cartridges have been around for years.

Are you asking if you should consider those cartridges for 600 and 1000 yard shooting? I would not use either of them for those ranges. They are both short range (100, 200, and 300 yard) Hunter class cartridges, and are great for those distances. They are not designed for long range. If I were getting into 600 yard game I would start with a 6mm Dasher or something close, and for 1000 yards I would start with a 6.5mm-06 or something very close.

Paul, you hit it right on the head. 600 and/or 1000 yards.

I'm sorry guys. I should have given more details. I am locked into a 30 cal. SS Kreiger barrel with 1:10 twist. My first inclination is to have it chambered to a tight necked 308, but thought about the 30x47 and 30X44 as perhaps better choices for 600 or 1000 yards. .

From what I've been reading, it looks like I should stay with the 308. The only down side is no muzzle break. Ouch. Just practice sessions.
I guess I'll be talking to Dave Kiff soon about a reamer.

Thanks much.

Roy
