I Guess I Am Just Not Smart Enough To Do This.

To heck with it. I can't spend any more time trying to prove a concept that obviously takes more gray matter between the ears than I poccess.
All I am is a Machinist. I am not an engineer, a mathematician, or related to Sir Issac Newton. I darned sure can't read peoples minds.
The Benchrest Season is upon us. It is time to get serious. I will continue to use what I know works, and leave this entire "speculation thing" to those who have the time, and patience, to put up with all of the crap that is involved.
The only other thing I will do today in relation to this "tuner" thing is insert a snug fitting Deltronic pin in the barrel, slowly tighten the tuneing adapter, and see if I can detect any closing of the bore, and if any, how much.
If anyone wants to continue this experiment, I will send you the pieces I made, you can mount it on a barrel and spend the time.
If it proves to work, maybe we will all jump on board. But untill then, I have serious shooting to do...........jackie

Well, from me, thanks for your effort. Whether this tuner thing turns out to be better than home-made peach jelly on a hot biscuit or it turns out to be dog poop on a bagel, it may take a few years to really shake out.

Any one who can test, then provide input, good or bad, which helps us all learn more about how to create more accurate rifles, deserves thanks from benchrest shooters.

A tuner equipped rifle using preloaded ammo won the RBGC 'Winter Gale' match last Saturday.

Jackie,

I can relate to where you are. Working folk only have so much free time. I can spend free evenings machining stuff but getting the range time to test is difficult. We appreciate what you have done and your willingness to share your experiences with others. At least we have quite a few people experimenting now and thru sharing our experiences hopefully we can solve many of the mysteries.

Regards,
Joel

that's how it all began. trying this trying that sleeves , wider stock flat stocks etc etc. With out experiment we would be shooting old Mauser's with recoiling scopes and 28 inch barrels, thanks for your efforts and keep up the good work. new ideas should always be welcome, to advance the sport.

jackie,
thanks for your continuing support of BENCHREST!
have a good season.

Jackie:

I don't know if you recall the movie "War Games" from the 80's, but it had a great dialogue: "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?" I think this applies to nuclear war and the Calfee conundrum equally.

Seriously though, I don't think your set up or execution were flawed. I appreciate your efforts and believe you added vital data to the tuner accuracy equation. Thank you.

Jackie

I appreciate your effort and enjoyed your posts on this subject. Thanks for taking the time in your shop to do these things.

Jackie,
Thank you for your time and effort. May you have an excellent season....Donald

Jackie,
I am new to the sport (incidentally have a time precision tuner on my 30br), and have been following your trials closely. I really appreciate the effort you put in as it helps me to more critically evaluate all the "latest and greatest" more carefully. There are so many gadgets out there that it's easy to get analysis paralysis, and give up the whole thing. I know that your experiment does not mean that tuners do or don't work, but the fact that you were willing to put out your time and money means a lot. The fact that you shoot at a high level and are willing to try something out that may further the sport should not be taken lightly.
Thanks for the effort,
Mike
