The first ever I.B.S Texas State Championship has come to an end, and I have to say I had a great time.
Twenty-nine shooters showed up to brave the Texas winds, eat the good food and spend the weekend with friends.
This was the first match I had prizes to give out and it made for some fun times passing things out to the winners. I’m truly thankful for all the generosity. A special thanks to:
Shilen crew for a fine Saturday night dinner.
Butch Lambert at Shadetree Eng.
George at Kelbly’s Inc.
Randy Robinett at BIB
Dave at Pacific tool & gauge
Jon at L.E. Wilson
Mike Lucas
Bart at Bart’s bullets
Russ at Haydon’s shooters supply
The Harrell brothers at Harrell’s Precision
Lester at Bruno’s
Berger Bullets
Jerry & Curtis at Stiller Precision
We had some very good scores throughout the weekend including four shooters shooting 500s in the Score Grand along with an impressive 0.1715 Grand Agg. shot by Dennis Wanger. When it was all said and done Denton’s own Mike Stinnett came out on top as the Texas State Champion (shooting his 30PPC in score & group).
This event brought a new award happily named the “Oil Slick”. Three competitors walked away with this plaque.
The first was Bill Whitener, Bill was beat out of first place in the 200 yard Score match by the Creedmore rule and then found himself being Creedmored out of first place in the Score Grand. That was still some fine shooting Bill.
Next came my good friend Ralph Stewart, as Ralph started his fifth target in the 100 yard score he was so very close to a perfect 250 25X(I know many people have done this but the winds of Denton do not allow this high of an X count very often, if ever). In the end he had to settle for a respectable 23X. I can’t say for sure but it may be a range record.
Last but not least we come to Jackie Schmidt. Jackie was on his way to a good start and a backward primer ended his run for the championship. I’m sorry that happen to you Jackie,
I enjoyed the time you spent with us.
