Yu are right on that account.I think there are more "hummer" shooters than there are "hummer" barrels.
Good luck and stay safe.
back in the day of Precision Shooting Magazine there was an article with pictures of Tony at Dwight Scott's shop watching Dwight chamber his 20 barrels he had taken there. As I recall, Tony hoped for 2 great barrels out of the 20 and a couple pretty good ones to practice with. He said the first 200 rounds were the best from a barrel and it was down hill from there. He tested with one load. If the barrel didn't shoot that load, he screwed it off the gun and moved on. All written down for folks to see.None. Tony Boyer has a photographic memory. Gotta remember, where all bullets go with the conditions............

I have talked to several people who have owned barrels that would allow them to hold in the center and shoot without worrying a lot about conditions. I have experienced that also, As I have said previously.
Actually, there are people who can identify great barrels by "slugging" them to evaluate the condition inside them. Not a lot is said about the process but I attended an Accuracy school last winter where it was discussed and the equipment to do it shown. There are people who do it. There was a long thread about it last winter on here. It is possible to make barrels a lot better and perhaps "Hummers" but it is a lot of work and gearing up to do it.You can not pick a hummer barrel, you could change the length by 1/4 inch and turn a barrel 10 degrees to find a good shooting barrel, if a person could pick a hummer barrel you would not have enough money to buy it, barrels don't have to be straight to shoot well, you have to just put a good chamber and muzzle on a barrel and try it, some barrels just don't shoot and the bore seems fine, that's the joy of shooting, the gunsmith can not be blamed for this, have fun shooting, they are out there.
I don't agree with most of this. You can not pick a hummer barrel, you could change the length by 1/4 inch and turn a barrel 10 degrees to find a good shooting barrel, if a person could pick a hummer barrel you would not have enough money to buy it, barrels don't have to be straight to shoot well, you have to just put a good chamber and muzzle on a barrel and try it, some barrels just don't shoot and the bore seems fine, that's the joy of shooting, the gunsmith can not be blamed for this, have fun shooting, they are out there.
