How much do 6PPC necks thin out after firing a period of times?

As the title asks.

Is there an amount that any of you guys/gals ahve noticed they then out after being turned and fired?

2-3 ten thousands??????

Just curious what you guys have seen.

I have never noticed any thinning of necks from firing. I think it would be the opposite -- lead flowing from heat and pressure in the chamber the neck should grow thicker not thinner. That's just "old farmer logic" as I have no evidence.

I have no idea, I'm not set up to "measure" stuff.

They just get wicked loose, and you have to go to a smaller bushing :)

Thanks Al

I thought there might be some old time, die hard, Bench Rester, some one along the lines of that Texan frommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm somewhere around Lubbock Texas who may have over the years noticed a trend.......................LOL

I wonder if he has had the concentration over the years to be able to handle that?????

He has a tendancy to drop rifles.............................. ;);) I wonder if this is why?????

I have brass that has had a ton of firing on them, and I can say I have never seen the necks thin out at all.

Thanks there Zdog...........

appreciates your thoughts. As I am not much of a reader I appreciate all of you fellows who read and pass info on. I am more of a lets sit down over a bottle of FORTY CREEK whiskey and let me ask you questions until the cows come home........................

I think they thin a bit but not positive. I am turning some necks and I am going to mark the Mic readings to see what happens over time.

The other thing i realized after thinking about it for a while is that they may not thin. It is just that the necks work harden enough that unless one goes with the smaller bushing after X amount of firings it appears they thin.. Just a thought.

On cleaning necks I either use Never Dull or my OOOO steel wool. I can see the OOOO steel wool over time making a difference.

If my bank roll was never ending I may toss my brass out as well after every match. Unfortunately that is not the case. I shoot it until I get PO'd at myself and my shooting then I just toss it.

Later fellas.

I am enjoying a pot of Chicken and dumpling soup with a FRESH bottle of 40 CREEK. it is kind of a pre Super Bowl party...................... :-O

That 40 Creek must have added some clarity to the thought process. Yes, the brass gets work hardened and does not spring back in the same way, or size in the same way as new. If you don't want to chuck it, try annealing it. I have found annealing to get back to about 95% of original and extends the life of the brass. I especially use it for my 30x44 cases

If you use a tool or technique that leaves a wavy finish, as the mountains flow down into the valleys the cases will measure smaller since firing has just ironed out that roughness.
