How many times has that case been loaded

Wilbur doesn't over use cases

I know for a fact Wilbur will not use cases over 3yr, 2mo, based on 15 match/yr. Wilbur turns cases during match, and when he has 20 finished, he fireforms. Immediately after, we gather around a trash container, he has a special service, thanks the cases for all the "pine boards" they have allowed him to win. Then he buries the cases in the trash container. Then he turns swiftly and walks away, getting back to the business @ hand.:)

for what its worth

Some good thoughts in this thread. Use of a small base die (redding for money is hard to beat) or one customized for your chamber is good idea. Cases naturally last longer with loads that not at the upper end - as jackie shoots. Even with Lapua brass monitor the condition of brass closely. I have had brass go bad after 2 or 3 firings - loose primer pocket, split neck, etc Regardless Kent's sugguestion about neck bushing is a jewel to remember. Inspect brass very carefully after each agg. At end of days shooting I go thru brass, inspect, resize, measure and trim if required and I run each piece thru the chamber to ensure it all fits / feels the same. If it does not I discard it or use it for fowlers only. Like jackie I start with 20 pieces for a 5 shot match / agg versus the usual 15 a lot of shooters use. That gives me flexibility to discard pieces that split, loosen etc. I rotate the brass so all of that 20 gets an equal number of firings and make a note on the box as to how many times it is loaded. Brady Knight once told me he could wear out a barrel with 20 pieces of brass. On the other hand I have seen Billy Stevens use a set of brass for each agg and in fact when he won the super shoot he had to fireform brass for the last day because he was shooting hot!!! and with a small base die. Billy and some of the other top guns do not overuse a piece of brass - with the thought brass is cheap compared to other cost why risk problem when in heat of battle.

Kent,

I've got three different chambers from three different Match Gunsmith's, I can't interchange dies.

I can use the same dies for all barrels from the same 'smith in each case.

By the same token, I've sent the same reamer to three different 'smiths and got back interchangeable chambers.

I'm not arguing, I've just had different experience. I've never considered the 6PPC chamber to have been standardized, maybe it now is??
