How do you qualify

Best of the Best

If we are to send teams to the World Championships in 2011, we need to have a qualification process. Now, if our best cannot shoot better than 623-8X at 25 meters, so be it. However, our best are capable of much better, so it simply depends on their desire and wherewithal to travel and compete.

I agree 50 yards/meters is a more challenging test, provides a wider experimental platform and will force paradigm shifts in development.

Unfortunately, that is not the game the rest of the world plays or the game that will be played in South Carolina next year. The world plays at 25 meters with their target. For one match, we need to play by their rules.

Well, i only posted the low score so those lurking can see full range of recent competition.....

More Scores

A full range of scores is an excellent point and should show that all of these shooters have to start somewhere. Thanks.

Chris,
The benchrest season for alot of the country has come to an end. So for a lot of the country to qualify durning the winter months would be a hugh disadvantage.
Looking over the scores that we have shot at Holbrook, MA durning the last three years, They have greatly improved. The only match that no one shot over 700 was durning a shoot last year. Pouring rain, cold, wind 30-50 mph with gusts to 75. Had only one score over 240.The winner still had a 694 3X, second 694 2X.
With better weather the top three scores are in the high 730's to low 740's. The last three years have been shot at 25 yards on AGBR targets.
At Pinnacle Mountain the last two shoots David did shoot some WRABF targets at 25 yards, scores were on average 1 point lower with a lot higher X count.
My November 17 shoot will be outdoors at 25 meters also with a 30 min time limit on WRABF targets. Have 9 concrete benches and 6 wooden top benches. So room for 30 shooters or can run three lines.

Ok, clear enough. Since they are playing 25 meters with 20fpe max in the heaviest class, then thats what we need to play if its to be head to head. Unfortunately, it IS kind late, so for sure it would be nice to see the qualifier regulations ASAP.

So far, I don't recall seeing any scores by US club shooters posted at the official distance on the official targets, but I get the impression they will be somewhat lower, due to the longer range most were shooting this year.. But if there were, we wouldn't really know if they were legal weight, power, yada yada anyhow, I mean for the new rules.

Guess we better get cracking on this.

I would like to know the caliber used by the winners. I suspect .177 will have the advantage due to 20fpe restriction.
Dan

.177

They all shoot .177 due to the 20 FPE restriction and laws in certain countries. .22 can be shoot but it takes you down in velocity. With 15.9 gn pellets, that should be around 750 FPS, if my math is correct.

Are teams limited for competition..?? How many teams can enter from the U.S.??? So in the dark here.....

From Bill Coles, a country can have 3 teams of 3 plus 2 alternates per team for a total of 15 competitors per class. Plenty of spots for our best shooters to shoot all types of air rifles.

Sorry guys not ignoring u just been away for 4 days soacking up some sun in Surfers Paradise. A couple of answers to your questions;

It seems .177 is th preferred calibre for accuracy BUT the scoring is done using a .22 scoring guage.

Team Size: Being the host country you should have the largest team, effectively you can have have 15 shoooters per each event, this consists of 3 x 3 person teams plus 6 individuals that qualify also. We could have 2-3 events and classes. Most teams from overseas due to the high costs may only bring 1-2 specialist air rifle shooters and will just use their rimfire shooters to enter the air events as was done in Italy in 2008. The shooters in the Team can win team and individual medals and the individuals can only win individual medals. Individuals still need to qualify in the top 15 to make it.

As Air rifle benchrest grows throughout the world this will change but also the costs involved to just go and shoot one discipline lean it to be usually a combined rimfire/air rifle shooters from visiting teams.

Australia shoot our World Postal Match on Sat 30-102-2010 down in Melbourne, some of us have tooled up and have been practising so here's hoping that the wind gods are kind on the day.

Good Luck

Bill,

Good luck in the Postals. The USA has some teams entered for matches later this year.
