Hex Head Cap Screws For Burris Signature Rings?

Does anyone know where I could get a few Hex Head or Torx Head screws to fit the Burris Signature Zee Rings? I'm not talking about the ring caps themselves, but rather the screw that fastens the ring to the rail. They come with slotted screws, and it is difficult to get good torque on the screw with a slotted drive. I'm not sure of the thread, but I'm sure it's a common size like 10-32, or something of the like. Places like Home Depot and hardware stores don't stock specialized screws like this. I thought of Brownell's, but it's really hard to find specialized things on their website. Bill T.

Another thought..... (HEEEpers, I'm gonna' get CRUCified here )

billt try this at least once for me :)

Wipe the factory screws off good with a paper towel and LUBE them with a heavy oil, something like LPS, or even light grease like bolt lube.

Now just screw them down to where you're still entirely comfortable with the flat-headed screwdriver, no "torque" required. Don't even TRY to torque them, just pleasantly snug.

Check do they shoot loose.

The thread should be about the 2nd or 3rd one from the top.

MSC Direct has them.

Part # 76452051 - 6-40 x 1" (25) $8..55

Part # 76452069 - 6-40-x 1.25" (25) $8.62

Plus shipping..

I always lube the threads as well as the heads, but they shouldn't have to be constantly re torqued. I wish gun equipment manufacturers would just get away from slotted screws, and stay away! It is so much easier to properly torque a hex or Torx head, and they don't come loose. Even Ruger has seen the light and gotten away from them on their rings. Slotted screws are like carburetors. They were fine when there was nothing else. Now there is. Bill T.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure of the thread size. Thanks again. BillT.

I just thought I would let you guys know that I purchased the 6-40 X 1" hex head screws from W.W. Grainger. It was easier, cheaper, and faster. I got a 50 count box of them for $16.44 Total including tax, out the door. The MSC was cheaper, but I found out with shipping to my door from Reno, Nevada, (the closest outlet that had them in stock), it would have been over double the $8.55 for 25. I realize I'll never need 25 of them let alone 50, but it was also more convenient from Grainger. They have over a dozen locations here in the Phoenix metro area alone you can will call from. Anyway, this is the link to the item # from Grainger on these screws if anyone else is interested.

This is how the installation looks on my Savage Model 12-F/TR.

If anyone here uses these rings and would like a couple of these screws to change out your set up from the slotted screws Burris provides, PM me with your address and I'll send you a couple. They really are a lot nicer, and you can get much better torque applied than with the slotted screws Burris includes with the rings. It's a small detail, but they are nice, and look like they "belong". Bill T.

I wish I would have seen this thread earlier as I ordered a box of 6x40 hex head screws from McMaster-Carr a little while ago and have no need for so many extra screws.

PM me if you want a couple. I've got stainless screws.

store locally has them in Socket head or Torx .47ea.

That's $47.00 per Hundred Who would pay that for those screws? Thay are just socket head cap screws. Suberban bolt here in the detroit area has them (USA made) for about $4.50 per hundred.

Torx

I wish the industry would go exclusively to Torx head screws. In my opinion, Torx has them all beat.

Sorry but these really went fast. I posted this on a couple of forums and they cleaned me out! I've got about a half dozen or so that I want to hang on to for future set ups. You can order them from W.W. Grainger, they are very prompt and easy to deal with, and will ship to your door if a store isn't near by. The screws really worked out well. Bill T.

I just called Burris and they sent me a bunch in 2 different sizes for free. You could try that. It cant hurt.

The Burris mounting screws are slotted which is OK, but I like the hex head better because it's so much easier to get the proper torque. Bill T.
