Heigth of powder in 6PPC Brass

Does powder heigth make a difference? Would 5 cases loaded with different powder heigths show worse accuracy than 5 cases loaded to the same heigth.

Second question. Should the powder come up to the bottom of the bullet, removing any air gap? russell m

With, for example, 29.2 grains V133, you can have powder height anywhere from the neck/shoulder intersection to about 1/16" from the case mouth depending on how fast or slow you drop the powder. Does it make a difference? Drop them all the same speed. Benchrest is about consistency not style!!

The powder should come to where the gun shoots the best.

I do as you say & drop all charges at the same speed. When 1 does not come out the same I re-drop that charge. I was just wondering if anyone had actually done any tests or experimenting? I may do it myself some day. russell m

Even with a slow consistant trickle, the powder column can, and does, often appear different in cases. I see this quite often, and have checked the charges, and they were the same weight.

I guess it is the way the individule powder kernals stack in there. We are trying to pack a lot of a relative slow powder, (133 for the 6ppc), in there.

All that being said, if I see some that do not look right, I dump them and re-charge the case.

Awhile back,I said I was going to start weighing charges. The next match, (the Bluebonnet), I shot some great aggs, and forgot all about it.........jackie

Given any kind of moisture, particularly a damp morning, I would not
dump and refill a case. Cases thought to be empty sometimes are not.
Moisture acts like a magnet to powder and your 29.5 is now 29.9. Set it aside and put it on the sighter.

Bob,
Your right about kernals becoming stuck. My loading box has a piece of soft pine in it that I tap the case on upside down prior to recharging. Sometimes nothing comes out and sometime 1 to 8 kernals will fall out. I always double check by looking in the case prior to recharging.
