Headed to Mexifornia Thursday

"Stuart,Charlotte and I are looking forward to your visit this coming summer.
Butch"

Yes Butch, so are we. But next May is YOUR Summer. It's summer here right now so you can come HERE first :)
It's only 13 hours on the plane direct flight from LA to Brisvegas. :) That is a long time between gas stops isn't it?

Have a good Holiday and keep a watch on those 'Mexican' drivers!
We don't have them in Aussie land because luckily we don't have boarders. Just a lot of ocean all around us which is helpful sometimes.
but we do drive on the otherside of the road remember, possibly because we are...down under. So that could be worse.
Are you going up into the middle of Calif? Drop in at Visalia benchrest range south of Fresno. We shot there in 1981 and went back and visited in 1997. In fact Annie won he first ever shooting trophy at that 1981 match which Lee Six took us to. Nice farming country all around there. Pity about the smog though. Gets trapped in that big basin. You'll appreciate the clear air of Texas.

Very nice, great public post from you. I just left Cal after 17 yrs, now no worries on carry issues, or buying and or importing to my home state
of Wyoming. There are alot of GREAT people out there and most that I know would be ashamed of your post. Ron Tilley

Talk to the Ingrate that started the Thread

I take California name calling personal. No free shots in my book.

Ray,
It is so nice to have Stevie on ignore as I don't have to read his BS. There are some really great guys in Mexifornia and some great shooters.
Butch

Stephen. I agree about the name calling.
But, I think, it used to belong to Mexico. Before that Spain. Then the Natives. From Russia. By the great land bridge.....
When it falls off into the Marianas Trench. It will be wet.
Trench starts at the south bath house at La Jolla Shores. And goes down 3 miles. Been to the trench a few times. COLD. Starts at 90-125' and goes down.

Well, I learned something yesterday that I wondered about. My wife was shopping yesterday and found they lock up cosmetics and you have to have a salesperson unlock the stuff and carry it to the cash regisiter. I found this true at the package store.A lot of stuff was locked up.
There must be a message here.

Yup.
Butch you are not in "Polite Society".
No Carry means No Carry.
Watch out for the "big boom" in the back of the store. And duck. It might be a shoot out.
One guy make a loud noise. The other does a snatch, carry, and run.
And duck, cause the owner might shoot.
If you see people, on the roof, of stores. With shotguns. Get out of there real fast. It is riot time. They are the local security force.
The Police are at home base. So they don't get shot at.
And the crips and bloods don't do riots. Just the locals.

Hey Butch, there are still alot of fine people in So Cal but come about 80 miles North and start seeing the real California. it gets better the further North you go as long as you stay away from the Bay area. In Kern county you can get a concealed carry permit by filling out the application and taking the required training. We have the best law enforcement in the state, when LA bank robbers come to Bakersfield they go home in a bag.
If you do get up this way give me a call, I'll show you my shop and take you to lunch. Next time I'm in Beaumont I will try to visit Poetry.
Have a great Christmas

Leroy and Tim, I know a lot of wonderful people in Calif. I went to the Air Force Plant 42 yesterday with my son. We toured the U2 rebuild depot. I was impressed with the knowledge and skill of the people that I visited with. I saw a NASA plane take off, a B2 bomber, F22 Raptor, and others taking off and landing.
I am enjoying my visit.

Concealed weapons permit

Butch you nuts???
Ans. prolly NOT.
Check the NRA site for travel rules.
Last I heard. The only 2 people to get a carry permit were Sens. Boxer and Feinstien.
Oh, and their guards.....

Don't forget Rosie O'Donnel's bodyguard and probably Jane Fonda. Remember Rosie slammed Tom Selleck for being an N.R.A. member when he was on her show. The liberal hypocrites in Hollywood, government and the news media feel they are above everyone else.

Hey Butch. Sounds like you are getting the royal tour. That is great. :)
I know, there are a lot of Great People in CA. I lived out there for 18 yrs.
I miss it.
I was not into Benchrest till last yr.
We would just go out in the desert. Till Fish and Game shut it down. It was sorta an unofficial outdoor range East of San Diego.
Be safe. Have a great time.

But what is the purpose of carrying a gun in a vehicle especially a handgun if you can't get to it and the ammo to use it for defense. Most I talk to say they go loaded and take their chances with the law.

Precisely the reason I carry a pocket full of rocks!

Good Old day huh Zippy. Now it seems if you are not shooting on a 'Official' range or private property you are hunting. Even if it only tin cans better have a hunting license.

Bad Ass So Cal

I'm glad I don't live in the neighborhoods of So Cal Zippy talks about. I live in peaceful Upland just North of Ontario just East of Pomona and the NHRA Winternationals just West of Fontana and the NASCAR Motor Speedway.

We have 3 local airports Chino, Upland, Pomona that fly relic aircraft everyday. Lots of good stuff going on here every weekend. We have several rifle/pistol Ranges still going, local pheasant club, Olympic Shooting Range - Prado, Trap and Skeet at several locations. And next year we hope to have our BR Program going at Angeles Range 15 mile South of Magic Mtn.

I have lived in So Cal for 55 yrs and never had my life threatened or any of my family members. I coach the Upland High School Wrestling Program going on now. Going to get some Arizona and Nevada teams over next week for our Tournament. Fortunately the Wrestling goes on during the time when BR is down. Dale Boop coaches same in Pennsylvania.

So we in California have not much control over these crazies that run the State government, try to vote them out every year, we just pay our taxes and lead over lives. Not much different here than any place out of State I go. Difference here I like all the other States even Texas.

Sacramento is holding a 1,000 Yard Match this sunday 12-27-09 and your whole family is invited to shoot with us free of charge.I will supply the guns, ammo and will pick up the fees it will be competitive equipment. You can bring Leroy up with you as he has a very good shooting 6BR as well.

When you take your wife shopping remember the 3 "B" Barney's,Bergdorfs and Bloomingdales as it will make your next gun purchase go smoother.
Waterboy aka Lynn

Thanks for the invite Lynn. We are leaving Sat. morning and going home. I think we will take the northern route on I40. Time is too short.
Butch

Got home last night. We came back the northern route. It is a little more picturesque. Only icy roads were the overpasses in Wichita Falls, Tx. Now I know why I left there 47yrs ago. It was 1448 miles out and 1414 miles back. 21.5 hours out and 22 hours back. That is the time on the road including stops for meals and fuel. We drove 75-80MPH out there and 70-75MPH back. We had virtually no slow downs. We averaged 18.16MPG. The Duramax started in 9deg. weather in Albuquerque without being plugged in. It scared the hell out of me though. The folks in Calif. were great. We did see several vehicles with cargo trailers headed east as well as UHAUL vans.
Stephen Perry, I'm sorry I couldn't partake of your Mexifornia hospitality as we were too busy to work you in. Thanks any way.
