Hard Cast Metal

Greetings All,

I recently bought a 10lb Bar Bell Weight at Dicks. I tried to drill it and could not get a drill into it. I thought it was Cast Iron as a weight I had bought previously was Cast Iron and the usual soft texture but I don't know now what this weight is made from. I also tried cutting into it with a Carbide Endmill with no results. Does anybody know what migt be that hard to cut?

White cast iron?
