Hard Bottom Edgewood Bags

I'm talking about the front bags with the hard leather right under the cordura nylon so they keep their shape.

Has anyone found these bags to be better than the regular edgewood bag?
I've had these bags around for years and every time I try one I can always get better accuracy with a protektor bag or the one edgewood I own without all the hard leather under the forearm.

Jay, my experience is the same as yours. I tried a little test, a 20 shot group with each bag, each group fired at at a single bull, indoors at 100 yards. Three bags, (1) an Edgewood as you describe, (2) one of the old Ron Hoehn bags (they were real thin), and (3) a thick old Bald Eagle -- Gebhardt had them made by Protector, IIRC.

It was close. The Edgewood with that reinforced leather and the Hoehn were virtually identical -- very low 3s (.30X), but the Bald Eagle was just a bit better, in the high 2s (.292).

Well, sample size one, and only one 20-shot group with each bag/rest. I'm not sure whether the numbers were far apart enough to be statistically significant. But I use the thick bag these days...

I remember when they came out with that option. I bought one that has a front to back curve, rather than the flat as a pool table version. I figured that the flat configuration would be too critical on setup, to get the stock flat to the bag. On mine, the sand did not shift around, and the tracking was very good, but it sits on the shelf. A simple corcura bag replaced it. I think that the standard Edgewood would be just fine, and the option for the new white 3M material is supposed to set a new standard for slickness. As far as I can tell, it obsoletes all the other synthetic bag materials, as far as slickness goes. I understand that it is so slick that it took some work to learn how to sew it. I spoke with someone at Protektor Model the other day, and they are making bags with it as well. More new toys to try. I can't wait st try the new prototype rear bag that should be on its way from Protektor in a few weeks.

New Protektor bag?

Boyd, I looked for the new bag at protektor.com and their web site is gone as it once was.
The new bag sounds interesting. Do you know of a place to look at the new bag?
