well built action. Takes a XP 100 firing pin, there is another thread on here about changing firing pin springs, one man shop, he doesn't make CF actions anymore as far as I know(RF he does), he will still do work on them. SS bolt so keep the lugs greased. I have one and like it.

Hall actions used a 4140 CM bolt. I think he tried stainless bolts at first but they didn't work due to galling. This is covered in Stuart Otteson's booklet Benchrest Actions and Triggers which is a reprint of articles that were in Rifle magazine in the 80's or 90's.

thanks for the clarification. CM for a bolt would make a lot more sense for the reason you stated.
 
I had one of the large Halls

and it's bolt had big rust stains on it so I'm pretty sure it was 4140. Nice action I thought. It was in one of them Carbon Fiber stocks with a tiny butt on it. When I had it converted to 30 BR I found the stock too small for my shoulder right off so I sold it. Never shot the 6 PPC barrel that came on it.
