Perhaps I'm wrong but I thought that all of the 597 family was 22 rimfire. It has got to be difficult to "blow apart" a 22, much less do it twice. Perhaps this is left over from an April 1 posting. :cool:
 
The 17's [ and 22 mag for that matter ] just aren't suited to a low cost mass production blowback semiauto rifle.
 
Lol I can totally relate to that after this week.
I had a customer come in to the workshop this week who had pulled the trasnmission out of his car because he had been told that the flexplate was making the loud noise. He explains to me that he couldn't see anything wrong with the flexplate, I asked him to tell me what problems he was having. After getting the run down on the shift issues and stalling he metioned he had taken the pan off the transmission and there was some metal in there. Since he had the transmission with him I said I'd have a look in the pan......well there was enough metal dust and big chunks in the pan to tell me the transmission was failing and needed replacing, I told him to go and source a good used transmission.

He came back latter in the week and asked me to cut open the torque converter cause another transmission specialist had told him the metal and noise was coming from the torque converter. I again explained the metal wasn't coming from the torque converter, after all there aren't any gears in a torque converter and there were chunks of teeth from gears in the pan, I again told him to go and source a good used complete transmission, he again went away.

He came back today and wanted a torque conver seal, I asked if he had found a transmission he said no the other transmission specialist had told him that all the metal came from the torque converter and had sold him a good used torque converter but he didn't have a new seal so he had come to me to buy a seal..........I sold him a seal and once again explained how I had come to my diagnosis, I explained that I know what's inside a torque converter and how they worked as I am the only torque converter rebuilder in town......the other transmission specialist sends his away to get them rebuilt.

In hindsight perhaps I should've just sold him a used torque converter a seal and made some money............sometimes I just can't figure people out........Ian
 
Lol Francis I love that...........only problem here in NZ if you know the vehicle has a fault when you sell/trade it and don't make the purchaser aware of it they can hold you liable for the repair.

BTW a 2004 Ford Explorer still sells for around $12 - $20k here in NZ
