ISO is an international certification system. The idea is you follow strict pre-determined guidelines in design and production, insuring quality controle throughout the entire manufacturng proccess.
We looked into it a few years back, and said "no". We have pretty strict controle over our work output, as we are a small business. But, in large companies, it is quite common. "We are ISO 901-903 approved" appears on a lot of letter heads.
Keep in mind, this also allows the certification entity to audit your business any time, to insure you are indeed complying. That is something many businesses balk at.
About five years ago, the word was out that if you did not get ISO approved, you were doomed.
That never happenned, in fact, two of our largest customers dropped their's, as they figured it was a waste of time, and money.
Don't get me wrong. Certification entities such as these are needed in some manufacturing and design communities. If required by contract, then you have to make the decision as to whether you are going to comply, or refuse the business..........jackie
