Gun Barrel Manufacturing

Justin,
I know nothing about these machines, but the writer says the button rifling carves the grooves. I guess he really doesn't know what button rifling is.

Another tool produce in Asia because our government does everything possible to discourage manufacturing at home. Produced in Bomba. No idea what cost is. If it lives up to promise may well see even better and less expensive barrels.

Wally,
Carve these words on a rock. Lesser expensive barrels are not forth coming.

Flash! Barrels in constant dollars are better and cheaper than they were a generation or so ago. If new equipment is affordable and delivers the precision there will be more barrels available. Sometime referred to as competition in a free market. The bedrock of what once made this country the envy of the world.

Wally,
I don't know where you get your figures. They may not have climbed as fast as other items, but they ain't dropped in price.
Below is your quote.

That is true, what "used" to make our country the envy of the World.

Butch:

I agree with you. I found a few invoices for premium barrels I bought in the 1960s and early 1970s. Prices ranged from $125.00 to $160.00.
The same barrels cost me $285.00 to $300.00.

I have a barrel maker friend who makes both button and cut rifled barrels. As far as accuracy they both are superb. It is the extra steps taken in stress relieving and lapping that make the difference.

He is building a modern CNC/Manual(sine bar) cut rifler now and it will be interesting to see what kind of barrels he produces.

There are issues with CNC and there not being consistent from one end of a barrel to the other. Due to AC current problems ie : harmonics and whiplash.

Much bigger job than that IMO Jerry. Our Constitution, as written by our Founders, is no longer understood by so many CongressCritters and certainly not by this regime. How would tariffs protect our economy? The environmentalist have killed most of the mining and refining capacity in this country. If we put a hundred percent tariff on cast iron what would be the US source for things made of cast. Do you have a US supplier for all the various inserts we all use?

Where would we get the power to do all the mining, refining and manufacturing? Environmentalist and government has not allowed the building of a new nuclear or hydo site in well over 30 years. Can we really expect to refine boxite or iron ore with solar cells and windmills?

Nat,

Could you elaborate on these CNC issues? I know a bit about CNC motion control but I do not relate with these things you mention.

Congress has the expressed duty to issue tariffs (and regulate trade), period. That is the only answer, and it is the ultimate answer. How??

For example, if you go to Wally World, and everyone does, and you want a 60" TV. They have a 60" made by Visio, and they really do, and it is $799. Also they have an RCA 60" made in Indiana at the Indianapolis plant and it is $699 which one would you buy?

The Viseo TV, made by Communist Chinese slave labor COSTS $89.99, our Congress adds $709.01 as a tariff adjustment. The $709.01, if you buy the Visio goes to pay off our debt. See????

In times past when WE THE PEOPLE gave a damn and voted, Congress worked like that!!!!

RCA TV not made in Indy??
